Interview with Barby and the others 1999

It’s Thursday evening, 18th of March. Half an hour ago The Kelly Family played their last notes of their more than successful (as always) concert in the Hallen van Kortijk. While all fans disappear to all places of the country (and even outside it), we have an appointment with the family. Barby, Paddy, Angelo, Maite, cousin Adam and the others are still enjoying themselves. They would still like to have a chat.

On stage you radiate family love, solidarity and gladness. Has every cottage not his own crosslet ?
Barby: Yes. Also The Kelly Family won't be saved from sorrow. For the moment, my oldest sister Kathy has some problems with her family. We all suffered because of it. Patrica also went through a difficult period in her life. She is still feeling the consequences of an accident with a coffee-machine which fell to her head. And I also had problems with my health. At that time I couldn't handle the stress . I had a hard time emotionally. But the sun always shines behind the clouds. I can now smile again and enjoy everything I do.

Joepie's make-up artiste Roosje is also the make-up artist of the Kellys. She's preparing the video clip "I Really Love You"!
Barby: When we lived in Ireland, we could have more contact with other people. For example, I could go to the ballet-lessons without anyone knowing that I was a part of The Kelly Family. Since a short while we have had a Belgian make-up-artist (who since the show in the musicbox does the band’s make-up for all important TV-shows and has travelled with them to Sarajevo). She lives in Brugge and Maite and I decided we'll go shopping there someday. I'm already looking forward to that !

Father Dan may be a fine man, but still he wants to have all control over everything that you do. Do you have the feeling that he's over-protective ?
Barby: For the moment, I'm reading books about life. I want to know all about the miracle of new life. One day I want to be a mother, just like Kathy. But our dad learned us that everything in life comes in due course. I think that no one of us will marry before his 35th. It's so hard to have a close relationship with someone when you're on tour so much.
