* Last time! * On the way to wherever, you all went trough this cave. And it was just a quick trip through, considering all the fuss Alex made about it. * -except- for Tobias, Elo, and Carter. Poor them. * You're now approaching Lifa. According to the maps that have undoutably been checked. ( And memorized ) ( And copied ) ( And...and.....stuff. ) * And before you get there, a small swarm of butterflies circles around the group. They're nice and pretty, and when they go, Tobias chases after them! Into Lifa. * Carter digs out his last, bruised apple, and eats it. "Good thing we're almost there. I'm down to just sawdust. And that's so bland." * Start. * Elonith rolls his eyes. "Just like a kid." *munch, munch* Mrphlmumblechew. * Tzezhin stares after Toby a little. "Do you think he will be in a satisfactory condition?" * Lifa seems to be a.... normal city. Mostly residental, walls, etc. Population seems to be mostly variants of human and nekojin. Yeah, he should be fine. He's got dumb luck on his side. *swallow* I don't know. Hopefully. I'm too hungry to chase him right now, though. Mm. * Alex turns to the others. "Hey. No fighting here, 'kay? This is a peaceful place." I wouldn't want to chase him anyways. *glances around* Hmmm... Looks like typical late 20th early 21st century. * Carter walks towards the city. "Let's go find a restaurant, and a hotel. Or an inn and tavern." * Elonith grins at Alex. "Would I fight in a place like this?" They don't have a problem with...augmentations...do they? If it is truly a peaceful place, then there will be no need to fight. However, I have never known a truly peaceful place. I shall be...prepared. Nah, not really. This is where poeple who want some semblance of a normal life go. Good. ^_^ Where 'normal' is the early information age. Hmmm, okay. * Alex grins. "I could never figure it out myself. Who'd wanna be normal in a place like this?" *she spins a gun in either hand, then tucks them away.* Those who don't want to handle the truth. Those who just want to live happily, perhaps. * Alex puts on a more serious face. "Anyways. This is our last stop before the construction site." * Carter nods. * There's a big gate, thats probably the entrance. Anything else we should know? Oh, yeah. Monica, before- * Monica hurries on through. And promptly dissapears. Literally. ... you go on through.... *shrug* * Tzezhin blinks. What were you going to tell her? ^^; What was that? .... You might want to know that they might not like what you are, and question you some before letting you in.... Uhh... Need me to drag her back here? Because of her demonic nature? * Elonith looks around with a quick eye. "They don't have DNA scanners here, do they?" Defense mechanism. Generally keeps out baddies. I was worried she might trigger it... ( Ha! I said the d-word! And she's not here to get pissed at it! ) Uh... not sure how it works. But it does. *shrug* I hope it doesn't mind nanites... Interesting. How does it determine who the..."baddies"...are? Uh, oh... * Elonith starts walking in. "I'll take a look if you *really* want to know." * Alex shrugs. "Don't know. She'll be fine, though." * Tzezhin eyes the gate. "Tobias did seem not to be adversely affected...I suppose we shall see what happens." * Tzezhin approaches warily. I've set it off once myself.... But lets nevermind that. *She eyes the gate warily.* * Carter scans the entrance. * and as much of the rest of the city as is within reach while he's at it. * Concrete, mostly. There's a thin layer that's being constantly scanned via lasers, and the city seems to be mostly 21-st century construction, with a few exceptions. There's quite a lot of people, mostly human and nekojin variants. So this is what the place is like.... Seems so clean. I will investigate. * Tzezhin wanders off. Laser scanners...I'm not sure what they do when the detect something, though. Stay back a moment, I'm going to try to trigger one. *attemtps remote link* * Alex takes a deep breath, and steps through. * Elonith walks lazily thru the doorway. "It's just a door." * Carter follows, nervously. To you, maybe. It's gotten me once. *she glances at the floor nervously* How? ^^;; Uh... I'd rather not talk about it. I'm thinking it works on a combintation of spirit wards and laser identification and heat sensors to sense hostility, and if that hostility is ill-founded, it'll zap ya. Oh. * Carter waits a bit, and, when nothing happens, relaxes. "Can we find a tavern or an inn now?" Since, of course, anyone can technically be a supernatural, you just have to find the right people to make the wards... Didn't you just eat Carter? Only an apple... Though I suppose I can wait. Sure. There's one.... There. *points to one of the buildings in the distance* It's the Lighthouse. Doubles as an arms store, but I didn't tell you that. ^_~ My lips are sealed. What currency do ya use here, anyways? Anything in particular planned, or is this just the last stop before the ... destiniation? Trade and barter. *turns to Carter* Just gonna catch up on some news, and pick up a few things. Might need them when ya'll meet Clay. *nods* I'll keep my ears open, then. What're you going to do, Elonith? I'm not quite sure. Maybe I'll just hang with you and conduct some research. Okay. Would you like company, Miss Alex, or should we leave you alone? I'll be fine. Thanks for asking, though. n.n *bows* Very well. Shall we go see about some rooms, then, Elonith? * Alex pats Carter on the head, and jets, weaving through the crowd like she knows exactly where she's going. Yeah. I still don't like trade and barter, though. Nothing you wish to part with? *starts walking towards the lighthouse* Nothing I can part with. *walks as well torwards the lightehouse* All I've got is... one gold coin left. I doubt anyone would want my jacket. I need to find a job or something... * The Lighthouse, proudly displayed in neon lights. 2 stories, and an implied basement. Looks kinda full, cheers and clinking and gossip and talking going on. Yay! It's a bar! I bet I could work at something, but the question is would anyone want it? * Elonith checks for bouncers. *takes a breath* Lets see what we can do for rooms for tonight. *Walks in* <.< >.> Yeah. * Elonith walks in too. * Lots of people. None of them pay any particular attention to Carter, and Elo gets a few passing glances. * .... but the barkeep is staring at Carter. * Carter approaches the bar, carefully avoiding getting in anyone's way. ...and then notices the barkeep's stare. "Um... something wrong?" * Elonith looks up at the people, then up at the bar. It's too tall for him to look over, isn't it? * A-yup! ( A-hyuck! ) * Barkeep is a ordinary looking girl, looks to be older than Carter. Dressed in a oversized jacket. * Elonith leans against the counter and looks back at people who would be starring at him. * Barkeep continues to watch Carter. But is oddly quiet. * Carter is a bit disconcerted by her staring, but bows politely. "Excuse me, Miss, but we are looking for a room or two tonight. And some dinner, later." * Carter 's eyes widen, and he smiles friendly-like. * Barkeep nods. So, are you going to ask anything else or just stand there? * Barkeep blinks. "Ah... sorry, Carter. I'll explain in a moment. But let me situate you two..." * Carter sits at the bar. Then glances down at Elo. "Um... yeah." * Carter glances at the barkeep, surprise passing over his features again. Hey, Mith! Hold the fort! Yes, please, Miss. If you'll just follow me... *she exits from behind the bar, grabs a key, and gestures for Carter to follow. * Carter follows. * Elonith looks around warrily. He follows Carter. * Ding! Unused room. Looks like the nice one. o.o Hey, nice. Forgive me for not introducing myself.... Julia Venry. * Carter bows. "A pleasure to meet you, Miss Venry." It's really... really a pleasure to meet you too. * Elonith puts out his hand in a hand-shake gesture. "Nice to meet you. Elonith Newton." Elonith Newton...? The name rings a bell. *accepts the offered hand.* Any friend of Carter's is a friend of mine. * Elonith shakes her hand. "Oh, do you two know each other?" * Carter shakes his head, looking confused. o.o I do get back!? * Julia frowns. "Forget I said that.... If that's true, I might have messed it all up...." Then, then, you... ? Oh? Huh? * Elonith sighs. "I won't ask. Leave it be Carter, time travel's a messy thing." But... but, she says she knows of me... and it's been so long since I've met another te- do you mind if I tell him? Oh... Sorry. Force of habit. * Elonith raises an eyebrow. "Or is it something else?" As I said... it works after you come back and fix it. It's one of the great moments in Terran History. Sounds like you turn into a celeberty Carter. * There's a knock on the door. "Julie! Some swordsman is looking for some kid." *spouts of a description of Elo* * Carter smiles. "I- I don't know what to say... What year are you from, then, Miss Venry?" Black-skinned? ( Venry is a very nice '86 Chardonnay ) ( Slightly fruity, with an aftertaste of melon. But you didn't hear that from me. -_^ ) (I'm just waiting to see the Doctor from 'Back to the Future' to show up. :P) ( Of course not. You'd have no way of knowing, being underage and all. ;) ) ( *cough* 'Course. ) * Julia opens the door. Mith and Tze are there! * Carter looks at Elonith. "It's probably Mr. Tzezhin." Greetings. I see you have found lodging. * Carter nods. This should do for now. * Julia turns back to Carter. And says a number about 112 years past Carter's departure. Yeah, but where does Tzezh get the idea I have black skin? O.o Wow... * Tzezhin glances at Julia. "A friend of one of yours?" * Elonith , for clarification (I'll be sure to mention this at the begining from now on), looks about 8 years old. A little shorter than 4 feet, he has fairly bright yellow hair, and a pair of blue eyes, as well as a slightly freckled face. ( How Aryan of him. ) ( Tzezhin is just zis guy, you know? ) Friend...? Huge fan, at best. Partially the reason I'm in this place.... Um, sort of. Mr. Tzezhin, may I introduce Miss Julia Venry? Miss Venry, Mr. Tzezhin. *indicates the appropriate people* Wha..? * Julia nods. "Pleased to meet you." * Tzezhin nods at Venry, takes her forearm and gives it an abrupt pump by way of greeting. Since he's such a nice guy, he doesn't break her arm as he does so. ^^; * Julia shys away a little from Tze at the shake. But does the same. I'm sorry.... How many more in your group, Carter? ( Yes folks, Tzezhin actually doing the whole greeting thing! Amazing! Next, he'll learn how to pour tea. ) There are five more: Miss Alex, Miss Monica, Tobias, Joshua, and Merek. Mith, hear that? Send any of them up here! You can skip the formalities already, Carter. ( Yeah, and Carter's a...a...a BIG FAT SISSY. ) So.... Uh... ..... I should shut up. * Elonith nods. "Don't mess with it." Anything you need? Um... * Tzezhin turns to Julia. "My pardons--may I ask about that festival in the town?" Oh, they're harmless. *looks around at the room* No... this is... much more than I thought we'd get. Thank you very much, Miss Venry. Erm, may I call you Julia? They think Serena's so great and mighty and will crush their enemies, but they mostly just dance and yell. Who? I heard them described as the Cult of the Banshee, but I do not know what that is in reference to. Banshee... You need a file on them? A Banshee? Oh, no. Please tell me they aren't real here... .... Serena, one of the Lords of Shadow, irrestiable temptress and Flaming Banshee? Carter, I'm real, Moncia's real, I'm sure there are actual Banshees here. ( T3h Cu17 0f teH B4nsh33! ) * Tzezhin nods at Elonith. "I might need further reference on them, perhaps when we have little to attend to." They sure know how to throw a great party though. n.n What does this Lady of Shadow promise her followers? Or is she genuinely just in it for the party? Party I bet. Hm. * Julia blinks. "She hasn't promised them a thing. Some of the people here liken her, and the other Lords, to a real-life god, though. They worship her out of habit. .... I think." * Carter sighs. "Why do people need to make up tangible gods?" They're disconnected from their 'reality'. Of course they're going to come up with new dieties and beliefs. To be honest, it's surprising that it's not a bigger part of this place. I'm actually writing a paper on it. I don't know if I'll ever publish it, but it's about how displaced people adapt their beliefs to a new place. * Tzezhin blinks. "Gods?" I believe my God is still there, regardless of the universe. But, I may be unique in that. Oh, interesting. Can I see it, Miss Venry? I ... should get back to work. If there's anything you need, just ask. Okay. Thank you very much. ( He needs a back massage. And maybe someone to show him around....his bed. ;D ) ( Just kidding. ) (You know he'd like that. ~_^) ( Even though he'd say he didn't. ^_- ) ( Um... ... ... now _that_ would embarass him. ) * Julia exits. * Elonith waves back to Julia. "Looks like our worlds are from different universes, then." Is that not a given? * Elonith finds a place to put his laptop down on a table, and starts typing away. "Not really. We could have simply been from different times in the same universe." I find that doubtful. * Carter goes and sits down in a chair or something, and looks thoughtful. But, remarkably enough, not nervous, or stressed, or sad! * Elonith types types types. "If you want an explaination, I can show you easily enough. It's all theoretical, though..." Huh? Explanation? About what? How we could be from similar, but not exactly the same, universe. Oh. Yes. ... Whatcha working on? Recording what I know now, from what Julia told us. *nods* So, what's this 'Demon Gate' work off of? That was an unexpected experiance... I.. I wonder how she got here... That would be interesting, yes. The Demon Gate? It's a simple principle, really. It's really just a wormhole. Lots and lots of gravity, two singularity wells meeting at the bottom, and connecting distant regions of space. * Elonith nods. "Therefore 'bending' space and time so that two seperate points connect and allow transport..." That requires huge amounts of energy, though. *nods, seeming more confident as he talks about this than he has since you've met him* We've yet to get it to maintain stability. * Tzezhin listens, only understanding about 1 word in 5 though. I'd have to look into it, but I bet I could make it work. We have the energy. I don't quite understand the principle, but somehow they managed to use a recursive gravitic-temporal loop to generate a few particles of exotic matter. Still, how so many people survive dimensional travel intact... It does astound me sometimes. This travel...between worlds...it is common? I do not know. I should have been crushed at the singularity, yet...here I am. Not where I'm from. Happens all the time where I *was* from. Interesting. Heck, I've never been to Earth. On Kjarnan, only the most powerful mages can attempt to transport things or people even through small distances...I am astounded that Ysrdahl managed to harness such a powerful tool. Nor have I, in all honesty. Just in orbit around it, and to Luna city, once. * Elonith nods. "But you've been within seeing distance. Sol looks like just any other star, really." I am beginning to suspect that the monoliths here act as amplifiers as well as attractors. The Demon Gate should not have been functional yet, either. Yeah. Normally it'd take a very strong D-index to draw one to a reality this different from their own. Heaven's Door was our greatest success so far. Demon Gate ... well, we really need a receiving singularity. You should stick to FTL travel on starships until you perfect teleportation. Failed expirements are... unpleasant. Dimensional mechanics are not something seriously studied in the Terran Empire. I'm going to have some interesting data when I get home. o.o We haven't yet managed the gravitic displacement, either. The Demon Gate will only work as a sort of "highway". FTL is necessary for exploration, anyway. o.o ...but we seem to be confusing Tzezhin. May I address you so informally, Tzezhin? * Elonith looks at Tzezhin. "Only the most powerful mages? Hmmmm... It doesn't matter, really. Technology, magic, psionics, chi... It's all related." * Tzezhin shrugs. "On Kjarnan, one is usually addressed by both first and last names. But here, the rules seem to vary. So...it is quite all right. Carter." Psionics... magic... I really must study those, too, now that I've the opportunity. * Tzezhin almost...cracks a smile?! o.o * Elonith grins. "Still, some things are always the same. Who wants to see a cartoon?" Cartoon? Sure. Humor, or drama, or what? * Tzezhin blinks. "Cartoon?" * Elonith flips his laptop around so everyone can see. "Duck Dodgers in the 24th and a half century!" ( Poor hokie Tze. ) o.o Haha! Now there's a classic. Daffy Duck. * Tzezhin looks around hte room and behind Elo's laptop. "Moving...images?" ( Great. He's the oldest one here but he's acting like a doof. ) Just think of it as a magic mirror. The basic idea, at least, is the same. * There's a knock on the door. Followed by Alex calling, "Hey. Did Monica show up here?" * Carter goes to open it. "No, she didn't." He steps out of the way so she can enter. * Alex frowns at Carter. "Or Tobias?" At least, not yet... Ohh.... * Tzezhin watches the strange strange thing curiously. * Alex blinks. "Hey, nice room." * Carter shakes his head at the question, and looks embarrassed at the comment about the room. * Elonith looks at Alex. "They haven't shown up yet. Finish your errands?" More or less. Still need to pick up a certain item, but that can wait. Mind if I ask what? Just a big gun. Might need it. n.n ( Yeah, right. ) Of course. * Alex licks her lips. "Just a good ole laser carbine cannon." * Carter nods absently. Hey, Miss Alex? Did you hear anything about a festival in the town today? Both Julie and Tzezhin mentioned something of the sort. How's scrap around here, anyways? .... the festival. Of course! *she snaps her fingers* Oh? What about it? I'll bet anything thats where Tobias went off to. I did not see him. *blinks* Quite probably, now that you mention it... Are we going to have to get the 'cat out of the bag' now? We'll have to drag him if he had any of the festival juice... Let's hope not... What's the 'festival juice'? * Alex *grins*. "Possibly the strongest form of alchohol in the multiverse." ....... I think I'll avoid that...and hope that, if he's had any, it made Tobias pass out. It's almost a given that'll you'll pass out the first time. 'tis strong stuff. * Elonith takes a deep breath. "Oh boy." At least it's not the strongest sugar substance in the multiverse. However...exuberant he may be, he does not seem quite incautious enough to imbibe just because a substance is there. I may, however, be wrong. ( <-- stater of obvious ) * Alex looks at Carter. ... A look of almost... terror crosses her face for a moment. ".... I'll have to tell him -that's- a poison that'll kill him dead." Yeah, but who says he can't be peer-pressured into it. I suppose. * Elonith has turned off the computer, folding it up and putting it away. * Carter 's stomach growls. "Um... think we should go down and eat?" ... hungry already? Eh, why not. I have no objection. * Alex looks around. "Don't you get room service with this room?" * Elonith gets up. "I don't think so. And it's better to take the black hole to the food, than the food to the black hole." We probably could, but I don't want to take advantage... *opens the door and heads towards the common room to find some seats, at the bar or at a table* * Tzezhin waits for everyone to leave, and then follows. * Carter snickers self-deprecatingly a bit at the black hole joke. * Whee! Food! Carter gets served personally by Julia. Go him! Everyone else, too, but she dosen't seem to notice them too much. * Elonith walks out and gets food! Yum! * Carter thanks her and digs in, happy he doesn't have to try to balance his diet for once. :9 * She also recommends a few things for Carter's diet. She'd be one to know. =p :9 * Elonith sits down and starts eating away. He speaks to Carter so (hopefully) Julia won't notice. "I think she likes ya." It seems to me as well that she is rather fond of you. * Carter turns a remarkable shade of red, which rapidly, almost mechanically, fades away. "You think so? She's nice and all, but maybe it's just 'cause she's heard of me before?" * Carter is whispering almost below the level of audibility. Idol worship... Could be. But she seems surprisingly distracted by you. She does? *can't seem to figure out what to say* * Elonith grins and eats away again. However, her duties would probably prevent her from joining us. And she is not from your world at any rate; if we were to return, she would not belong with you. Actually... she's terran, too. * Alex grins mischeviously, idly pointing a spork at Carter. * Tzezhin blinks. "She is? Surprising." What else did you speak of? It could still be a different world. It's still undecided as to weather differet 'eras' constitute a change in dimensions. Um... well, she says I'm famous, in her time. For fixing the Demon Gate, after I came back. I'd still like to know how she got here. Though I can sort of see why she wouldn't want to tell me how I get back... and I don't believe in fate, anyway, so I just hope she's right about me *rambles in a mumbling tone for a minute or so until someone stops him* * Elonith elbows Carter. "You're rambling again." ...so. In her timeline, you return. A positive thought. Sorry. *turns a bit red again* * Carter nods at Tzezhin. Same world as you.... but a different time? And you going back.... *muses* Yes? It's curious. Noone else has said anything about going back.... ...expect trying and failing. * Elonith smirks. "Well, it's about time we had someone try and succeed, right?" I do want to talk to her some more. But not while she's busy working. That would be rude. * Elonith shakes his head. "I don't know if that'd be good for the timeline. Then again, there are theories that say it will adjust itself automatically to make what's different as close to the original as possible." I more want to know how she got here. She said that I was partly responsible... Indirectly, maybe. Hm... I think I'll listen for some rumors about that Banshee woman. *spreads sensors wide, listening for references to the Cult, the festival, the Lady of Shadow, and Clay, while he's at it* * Carter nods at Elonith. "Perhaps. I'm still curious, since she said the Demon Gate works." * Plenty of references about the festival. Festival this, festival that, and same of the Cult. Lots of random gossip, and boasts about being able to drink there and not get drunk. Most of them by people who are drunk. * A couple of prayers to Serena, to varying ends. But not much about Clay. Nothing really interesting. Though some people are indeed praying to the Lady, as if she were a deity. *looks disgusted* It could be worse Carter. Just think of it that way. Oh, I know. I know. * Elonith hmmms... "I'm begining to wonder where I do go when I get out of here, though. If, that is." * Carter finishes his plate, looking satisfied for once. "That was good." Assuming we have a choice, you could pick any available destination. I might just go with you to make sure you don't kill yourself. But, that's assuming I get to pick my destination. Never got to do that before. * Carter leans in towards the other two. "How much of what we intend do you think is safe to talk about? I mean, about our destination...and who we're trying to meet with?" * Alex raises an eyebrow. You're welcome to, if you like, Elonith. Something wrong, Miss Alex? ... No. Nothing. People might get the wrong impression of us, though. As it's mostly his lackey's that go there. Then circumspection would be advisable? Or just not mentioning it at all... * Alex shrugs. "Probably better not to mention it." *nod* Well, I suppose someone should go find Tobias. * Elonith yawns and checks his watch. (What time is it?) I've probably got the best chance of finding him, let alone catching him. I will go. *rises, leaving a gold coin on the table by way of tip* ( in-game? Hard to tell. No setting of sun at all. But clock say 5:32pm. ) (Oh, I know. He knows too. Which is why he checked his watch. :P) ( Bah! Silly people who need watches! ) * Alex starts to sit up. "Then Monica... ... But Joshua is still looking for her." I can seek her, too, if it will help. At least to tell her where our room is. Not that freak. (Hee. Elo said freak) Just make sure he doesn't go trying to 'sacrifice her' for her magical energies. * Carter walks to the door, and takes flight once outside, spreading senses and sensors wide, looking for the missing party members. * Elonith grins back to the people at his table, having finished his food. "Well, if you'll excuse me, I have some work to take care of." * Endsies. * And now for the SD summary! * ... just kidding. =p
