New Aeronautics/Aerospace Engineering!!!

Permanent Female Employees in NASA (only available in Adobe) The graph shows the percentage of NASA employees that are female at each of the different NASA locations.

*Some of the below graphs contain information on women in Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering...please refer to them as well*

Elementary Grant Proposal: Statistical Information

By Becky Bean

The following are links referring to the statistics I've gathered.  They are in Excel or Adobe Format, for your viewing pleasure.

Average math and science scale scores in grades 4, 8, and 12, by sex and race/ethnicity (2000): Note that in both math and science, the average scale scores are always lower for females.  (Excel) (Adobe)

Trends in average science scale scores by age, sex, and race/ethnicity (1990-1999): Note that as time progresses, the gap in average scores also increases between males and females.  (Excel) (Adobe)

Percentage of 4th, 8th, and 12th grades agreeing with the statements, "I like science" and "I am good at science," by sex, and race/ethnicity (2000): Note that the female response to these questions indicates that females are more uncomfortable with science and their proficiency in it than males.  (Excel) (Adobe)

AP Exams: This chart shows the participation in AP examinations in a female versus male ratio.  Note that Chemistry, a scientific field often associated with labs and experiments, has the fewest female participants.  (Excel) (Adobe)

First-year Undergraduate enrollment in engineering programs by sex, citizenship, and race/ethnicity (1990-1999): There is a HUGE deficiency of enrollment by the time females are in college.  (Excel) (Adobe)

Freshman intended majors in Science and Engineering by sex, and race/ethnicity (2000): Note that for the majority of sciences, more males are intended to major in these programs than females.  This demonstrates the growing gap between males and females, pre-work force.  (Excel) (Adobe)

Bachelor's Degrees awarded in Science and Engineering by sex, and detailed field (1998): With the exception of Biological Sciences, Psychology, and Social Sciences, females are FAR behind the male awards.  (Excel) (Adobe)

Science and Engineering Graduate students by field, sex, and enrollment status (1999): With the exception of Biological Sciences, Psychology, and Social Sciences, female graduate students' enrollment in science and engineering is significantly lower.  NOTE: ESPECIALLY IN PHYSICAL SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING!!!  (Excel) (Adobe)
