Dear Sir/Madam: I am writing to apply for the position of Senior Biostatistician in the Fujisawa Healthcare, Inc., as advertised on the ASA website. This position seems to be fit with my education, experience and career interest very well. I expect to receive my Ph.D. degree in Biostatistics this summer from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and earned my M.S. degree in Probability and Statistics from Peking University of China. I have a good knowledge and related experiences of phase I to III clinical trials. I am proficient in various statistics models and SAS, S-plus, C++, Fortran languages. During my Ph.D. study, I worked as a research assistant. On some consulting projects I analyzed clinical data using repeated effect models and logistic regression models. In the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, I helped doctors with their clinical research on neonate health issues, and studied the overall performance of medical residents using factor analysis and cluster analysis. On a grant from the Cancer Center of Medical College of Wisconsin I performed multiple comparison adjustment procedures in survival analysis. On the Biostatistics Core of the Specialized Center of Research (SCOR) grant I studied genetics of coronary collateralization, applied the transmission-disequilibrium test (TDT) on the linkage between marker loci and associated dichotomous disease traits, processed pedigree data, developed and implemented Markov Chain Monte Carlo technique for a Bayesian TDT test for binary traits. I am honored to have Dr. John P. Klein as my Ph.D. dissertation advisor. In my dissertation, entitled "Inference for the Shared Power Variance Function Frailty Model and the Correlated Inverse Gaussian Frailty Model", I study frailty models in survival analysis, which are commonly used to model dependent event times. Both the shared frailty models and the correlated frailty models are included. The EM algorithm is employed to estimate the risk coefficients and frailty parameters. The variances are also estimated. The model selection procedure is proposed. A simulation study is used to evaluate the performance of these estimators and of the model selection procedure. Examples of real-life data are analysed to illustrate how these models can be applied to biomedical studies. Given my research experience and strong education background in Biostatistics, as well as my strong interest in using statistics methods in healthcare system, I am confident that I can make a significant contribution to your incorporation. For your review, please find enclosed my curriculum vitae. The names with contact information for references are listed at the end of my curriculum vitae. I can legally work in the United States without visa sponsorship. I would appreciate the opportunity for a personal interview to discuss my qualifications and possible employment with you. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for your time and consideration. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Hong Wang 9130 W. Bluemound Rd.
