Pete`s Dreamcast Help for Newbies - Written By Bane

Welcome New DC enthusiast!!!

FIRST... you are new here, or a N00B... if anyone is addressing you as such, it isn't an insult,
just some of us get tired of barrages of questions... be patient, someone will help you if they
can. Dreamcast lovers should stick together... SECOND... read this through fully, and follow
the directions! You will have some classic games in your possession by the
time you are done here! So... let's get started...

Okay... first you must have WinZip,  Also need to have tool is WinRAR. They are both available as freeware at Download.com. These tools compress data, so it takes less room. When trading games online, smaller files get across faster, leaving less time for a server to crash, or anything else, not to mention just getting your games sent/received faster... it is kinda rude to trade games without compressing them one way or the other first.

SECOND... I am a big advocate of Nero Burning Rom. Click here for TRAIL VERSION.
You will be using it to burn your data to CD. Whenever a duplicate of any CD is made, the
computer makes an "Image" that it uses to copy the original to a new disk. So when you read
image, think of it as a perfect negative for a picture, that can then be printed as many times
as needed. There are 2 major image types you will see in trading. The first is NRG. These are
Nero format images. Nero will burn them perfectly unless they are a bad image, every time. The second is CDI format. The software that creates these images is called Disk Juggler. For this
tutorial, we will only use Nero.

The third tool is called CDI2Nero. It will convert the CDI images to a Nero image, so only 1 of
the 2 tools will be needed. Click Here for CDI2NERO.

NOTE: You do not need to convert the CDI images to NERO images if you don`t want to - Its just that a lot of users feel comfortable using Nero rather than Disc Juggler.

Download -->> DC-Legend Of Zelda  CDI Format
Download -->> DC-Legend Of Zelda 2  CDI Format
Download -->> Atari Emulator + 506 roms  CDI Format

Some Extra games:

Download -->> Phoenix - Arcade Classic  CDI Format
Download -->> Doom  CDI Format

And that's all you need, except for IMAGES! The first one you should unzip is DC_Legend of Zelda.
It is in the CDI format. First unzip it to a folder you can keep track of, or create a new
folder just for this. Next, unzip the CDI2Nero to the same folder (sometimes called a directory)
. Now, click the CDI2Nero to activate it. Browse to the DC_Legend of Zelda.cdi... and click the
open button... then name the new file (DC_Legend of Zelda) and click save... now you will get
a perfect Nero Image of it...

Next, install the trial of Nero . Once
installed, restart your machine, just to make sure that your machine is all set from the
install. Then open your Nero, and start Nero Express... the bottom option is called Disk
Image or Saved Project... click it. It will open a browser window. Find the DC_Legend of
Zelda.NRG... and click it. Now, if you have the option, turn your burn speed down.... WAY
down... 4X is the speed I burn my own... slower is A LOT more reliable. After the burn is
finished, simply use a sharpie to write the title on the CD, and drop it into your DC! It
is that simple!

Now, try it again with DC_Legend Of Zelda 2. Make your Nero image from it, then burn it to
CD. And test it of course. If that works, then go to the next and LAST project...

FINALLY, let's get a real DC game running! Unzip DC_Atari Emu. Use Nero to burn it at slow speed. Give it a test! Now, delete the zipped Atari Emu from your HD. Last quick lesson, how to get them ready for trade. Right click on the nero image of Atari Emu. Click add to zip. Give it a few moments (Depending on your machine extracting and zipping might be the longest parts of any of this, patience will pay off). After the image is zipped, you have a game ready to trade over any file-sharing software!
