A Groom's Cake!
It's a special way of honoring the
groom. Traditionally, this cake was a dark cake of fruits and nuts,
often soaked in liquor to keep it well preserved. Before the home
freezer was invented, the grooms cake might have been the one that was
kept and eaten at the first anniversary celebration.
Another groom's cake tradition centers
around the piece of cake that unmarried women carried home from the
wedding to place under their pillow. Supposedly they would dream of
their husband-to-be. Specially boxed miniature groom's cakes can be made
up by your baker just for this purpose!
Finally, superstition dictated that "a
bride who keeps a piece of her wedding cake will have a faithful and
loving husband."
So many traditions are focused on the
bride. Why not include this one just for the groom?
Contemporary trends for including this
lovely tradition include serving the groom's cake (his favorite flavor)
at the rehearsal dinner or groom's party. Who should cut and serve it?
The groom, of course! Your guests will be delighted and he'll be pleased
to be so honored.
