TriBeta was founded in 1922 at Oklahoma City Univeristy by Dr. Frank G. Brooks and a group of his students. Since its founding, more than 130,000 persons have been accepted into lifetime membership, more than 370 chapters have been extablished throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The Beta Lambda chapter of Beta Beta Beta is a national biological honor society for students. It seeks to encourage scholarly attainment in biology by reserving regular membership for those biology students who achieve superior academic records (a G.P.A. in Biology of 3.0 or higher and an overall G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher) and who have at least 3 biology courses. Associate members are any interested students who have an overall G.P.A. of at least 2.5. Members are required to pay a one time national fee of $40.00 upon initiation into the biological national honor society.
Tri Beta aims to cultivate intellectual interest in the natural sciences and endeavors to extend knowledge of the natural world through scientific investigation, and to this end encourages undergraduates to conduct research and report their findings in the journal of the society--BIOS.
