Guitar Lessons
Okay, the following lessons need a little preface....
First - They are all in PowerTab format (click here for free download)
Many of the exercises will utilize the sweep / economy picking technique.
These lessons are geared for the intermediate guitarist who is looking to expand their vocabulary, or to get their solo improvisations "out of the box". The examples will break out of many "old fashioned" thought patterns and help you to discover new territory in your soloing, giving you both speed as well as melodic diversity. In other words, you won't find any standard blues licks here...
Take your time and get the sound and "flavor" of the different modes in your head. All of the exercises can obviously be transposed into different keys - so don't be afraid to experiment. After all, music is supposed to be played. Try to be as musical as possible - play in different time signatures, alter the cadence of the notes, play the notes forward and backward, MIX IT UP!!!
Let's get started, shall we?
We'll begin with the Circle of Fifths. If you don't know what this is, go get a basic music theory book and find out. For those of you who do, this first exercise is a very musical way of looping those monotonous arpeggio exercises into a flowing study of the circle of fifths. Try to be as fluid as possible in your execution. For variety, use alternate picking, sweep/economy picking, or fingerstyle.
I've divided the lessons into separate sections to make it a bit easier to locate the type of info you are craving.
