Of course, none of this sounds terribly difficult by today's standards, but the sudden worldwide marvel at what was almost too good to be true helped to usher in a new era of peace, prosperity, and international cooperation that we enjoy even today, mostly out of superstitious concern that the higher power almost assuredly behind the miracles would not have wanted its gifts to go to waste.
