Lindie Graves Privilege – I see the word privilege as referring to the privilege that whites have as the dominant majority. We don’t realize how much privilege we have on a daily basis, such as being born in a middle class suburban neighborhood and the ability to receive a good education. We also don’t realize that when we make a mistake (i.e. our credit card gets declined) it is seen as a mistake instead of being attributed to our race. It is for this reason that Affirmative Action is fair. Although we are giving an unfair advantage to someone who maybe doesn’t score as high as the members of the majority, this advantage is necessary in order for the minority to catch up.
