Effective Reading instruction includes getting started with the essentials. Children need to understand phonics and word recognition. Reading fluency is increased with practice. As children begin to read books that are interesting to them, fluency in reading will increase. An integral part of reading instruction includes spending time with reading comprehension. Every Reading Teacher's Toolbox should include evidence-based programs, interventions, and standards for reading instruction.
