Chris curled himself up on his bed, hugging one of his pillows close to him. He hadn't slept hardly at all since he and his girlfriend Trish had fought a few weeks before. Chris couldn't even remember what the fight was about anymore, the only thing he knew was that he missed her.
I can't sleep, everything I ever knew
It's a lie without you
I can't breathe, when my heart is broke in two
There's no beat without you
Trish walked into her and Chris's room, trying not to look at the bed. She knew if she looked at Chris she would melt. The truth was, she missed him too. But she had her pride, and she refused to give in. The problem was, she couldn't remember what she refused to give in too in the first place.
Chris listened as Trish walked into the room and headed straight for the closet. He could hear her pulling clothes out, the clinking of the hangers as she tossed the shirts carelessly over her shoulder. He bit his lip and fought the urge to just go over to her and attempt to mend things between them. She didn't seem like she wanted to, anyway.
You're not gone but you're not here
Is this the way it seems tonight
If we could try to end these wars
I know that we could make it right
At first it was easy for Trish to deal with hearing Chris's lonely whimpers, the longing looks he gave her when he thought she wasn't looking. But after a short time she found herself wishing that she had the strength to go to him, to tell him she loved him and that she couldn't live without him.
She tried talking to Lance about it, but he just told her the same thing that she already knew. She just couldn't bring herself to even look at Chris, let alone talk to him. She sighed and decided that maybe a walk would clear her thoughts.
Cause baby I don't wanna fight no more
I forgot what we were fighting for
And this loneliness that's in my heart
Won't let me be apart from you
I don't wanna have to try girl to live without you in my life
So I'm hoping we can start tonight
Cause I don't wanna fight no more
Chris watched out his bedroom window as Trish walked slowly down the sidewalk towards the park. He knew exactly where she was going, but he couldn't believe that she might actually miss him. He watched as she turned the corner, just like he knew she would, and he sighed deeply.
He stood up and headed to the closet, digging out all of the clothes he thought he could fit into his bag, then went in search of a few of his other belongings. He went into the bathroom and opened the medicine cabinet, grabbing only his personal things. When he closed the door again he stared at himself in the mirror. He wiped off his tear-stained cheeks and ran his fingers through his neglected hair.
It only took him a moment to realize that he knew what he had to do. He fixed himself up, grabbed his coat, and looked at himself one more time before going downstairs and heading out into the darkening streets.
How can I leave when everything that I adore
and everything I'm living for, girl it's in you
I can't dream, sleepless nights have got me bad
The only dream I ever had is being with you
Trish walked along the abandoned path that led to her and Chris's favorite place in the whole park. When she finally reached the end of the path she took a deep breath of air and sighed softly, staring out across the lake that stretched out in front of her. She walked down to one of the rocks by the edge of the lake and settled down on it, closing her eyes.
I know that we can make it right
It's gonna take a little time
Let's not leave ourselves with no way out
Let's not cross that line (that line)
Chris walked down the same path Trish had walked down only moments before. He stopped in his tracks when he reached the edge of the woods. He smiled slightly as his eyes fell apon Trish, and he walked quietly towards her.
Trish's eyes stayed closed as Chris approached, she didn't hear him coming up behind her. However she did feel it when he lowered himself down to the ground beside her. She opened her eyes and looked to her side, her eyes meeting Chris's, and for a moment she held her breath.
I don't wanna fight no more
I forgot what we were fighting for
And this loneliness that's in my heart
Won't let me be apart from you
I don't wanna have to try girl to live without you in my life
So I'm hoping we can start tonight
Cause I don't wanna fight no more
"Hey."
"Hey," Trish said softly, a little unsure of her own voice.
Chris pulled his eyes away from Trish's and gazed out over the lake, watching as the sun finally sunk down behind the trees, leaving them drenched in silvery moonlight. He was trying to think of how to tell her exactly what he was feeling, but he just couldn't manage to come up with anything. He bit his lip nervously when he heard Trish sigh.
"Chris, why did you follow me out here?" Trish asked, breaking the silence between them.
"I, well... I wanted to talk to you."
"I'm listening."
"Trish, I'm not all that sure how things got bad between us, but I swear I never ment for any of this to happen."
Trish looked over at Chris, only to be met with his tear-filled eyes once more. She stayed silent, but inside she was screaming to tell him how she felt.
Remember that I made a vow
That I would never let you go
I ment it then, I mean it now
And I want to tell you so
"Trish, baby I love you. I just can't see myself without you with me. You are my everything, and I'll do anything if you'll just give me another chance."
Trish's mind went numb. So many things were running through her head at the same time, but one thing she knew for sure was that she needed the man that sat before her. Chris was the only man that ever gave her butterflies in her stomach just by smiling. He was the first man she had ever given herself to fully. He's the first man she ever fully trusted with her heart.
"Chris... I love you, too," Trish leaned forward and planted a gentle but powerful kiss on his lips, her heart lifting as she felt him kiss her back.
I don't wanna fight no more (Oh no)
I forgot what we were fighting for
And this loneliness that's in my heart
Won't let me be apart from you
I don't wanna have to try girl to live without you in my life
So I'm hoping we can start tonight (Can we start)
Cause I don't wanna fight no more
When they finally pulled out of the kiss, Chris moved closer to Trish and wrapped his arms around her. Trish leaned into his arms, closing her eyes at the warm feeling that now filled her heart. Both she and Chris knew that they belonged together, and neither of them could believe that they let an argument that they couldn't even remember almost break them apart.
I don't wanna fight no more
I forgot what we were fighting for (Oh yeah)
And this loneliness that's in my heart (My heart)
Won't let me be apart from you
I don't wanna have to try girl to live without you in my life
So I'm hoping we can start tonight (I'm hoping)
Cause I don't wanna fight no more
They sat peacefully by the lake, enjoying the feeling of being back in each other's arms, and after a while they decided they'd better get back home before it got to late. They walked back home with arms around each other. As soon as they walked through the door they dropped their coats by the door and headed up to their room, stealing kisses the whole way.
As they snuggled close together under the covers, both Chris and Trish felt something so powerful between them that neither of them could ignore. They both knew that they wanted to be together for the rest of their lives.
It's all a lie without you
Without you
