CHAPTER 52
Tea had slept most of the day...exhausted from another sleepless night, having laid awake through most of it...a sentinel to her virtue. She had spent most of the day indoors, shut up in her room, still reeling from Aaron’s terrorizing assault last night. It was early evening and she watched the sun, orange and glowing, descending slowly on the horizon from the marble terrace of the villa she shared with this madman. Mikos was watching her from the beach....waiting to take his place as her guardian.
Yesterday she had kissed him...had gotten close to the one thing that could save her...his gun. What was she willing to do to get it from him she wondered? Somehow at this moment her virtue seemed a small price to pay for her life.
As she made her way down the steps in a white bikini and a long, white mesh robe she watched as Mikos began to follow her...keeping a shorter distance than he had before...more confident of his place in her world. She smiled at him and he smiled back beneath his bushy, black mustache.
Laying her white towel across the sand, she dropped her robe and walked slowly toward the water aware of Mikos’ eyes clinging to her body as she submerged into the warm, blue sea. Swimming back and forth she let her mind drift away to another watery paradise...Windsor lake...playing with Todd and making love on the shore. Floating on her back and looking up at the dusky sky she felt free, her mind relaxed and unguarded for a little while.
As she turned to look at the house she saw Aaron leaning on the terrace’s balustrade, his eyes fixed on her floating image. Even from this distance her body convulsed with fear, feeling his dark intent, his slipping self-control...feeling his sanity unraveling daily. Swimming had become an escape but it no longer held that affect...she felt panic , her body feeling heavy and sluggish as she struggled to swim back to shore as if she were drowning in Aaron Blackmoor’s delusional world. When she finally got back to the shore she looked up at the house...but he was gone...had returned inside.
Tea dried herself off and put her robe back on as Mikos came closer to her...just a few yards away. He looked up at the house and seeing Aaron absent he ventured even closer to her. As the wind rushed off the water her robe slipped off her shoulder exposing the dark, purple bruises on her upper arms, where Aaron had gripped her last night. Mikos stepped back, his eyes wide as he stared at the dark marks clearly in the shape of fingers that marred her perfect flesh. Anger seemed to rise in his eyes as he came closer, his fingertips touching the bruises gently. Mikos touched her face and said something that she didn’t understand but they sounded like words of kindness. Tea was moved by his genuine kindness and concern...his protective nature made her eyes misty and she found tears had started falling down her cheeks.
It was then that Tea caught a flash of movement at the corner of her eye and when she looked up she saw Aaron running across the sand toward them, his loose white tunic blowing in the ocean breeze.
Aaron was angry, his face red and bloated as he yelled something in Greek to Mikos who turned to him and yelled something back, pointing at Tea’s bruised arms. Aaron stopped when he got to Mikos and gave Tea a look filled with such unbridled rage that she pulled her robe tightly around her and shivered beneath his icy stare.
Suddenly, he stepped forward, reached into Mikos’ jacket removing his gun quickly and shot Mikos in the head.
Tea stepped back and watched everything happening slowly, sluggishly, as if in a dream. She heard the shot ring out, its echo carried long on the wind long after it was over. Mikos falling softly, slowly....his large, massive body making only a dull thud in the soft sand as a small trickle of bright red blood ran down his forehead, over his open eyes and into his mouth. She heard a scream, loud and terrifying, coming from somewhere...somewhere deep inside her.
“NO...NO...!” she screamed as Aaron approached her with the gun in his hand.
“NOBODY TOUCHES YOU BUT ME! NOT THIS ATHENIAN DOG...NOT THE RAPIST OF LLANVIEW...NO ONE!
Tea fell beside Mikos, clutching his wrist, feeling for a pulse...but there was nothing.
“He’s dead! I never miss,” said Aaron, grabbing a hold of her arm and yanking her up violently.
Dragging her across the sand, he pushed her up the stairs and through the door that lead to their bedroom. She fought him but he was too strong for her, controlling her easily with the gun which he kept waving in her face.
“That...was a lesson, my sweet! An important lesson to you...and any man who tries to come between us,”
he said, his face close to hers.
“He was just being kind...oh, my God...my God...you killed him...you killed him,” she cried hysterically.
“He’s nothing. But...I hope you learned something today...my little whore of Troy...no one gets to touch you...but me...and I’m so tired of waiting. I HAVE BEEN PATIENT, HELEN...BUT NO MORE! This ends now...tonight...you will be my wife one way or another,” he said pulling her toward him tightly.
“NO...” yelled Tea as she wrenched her wrist away from him and backed up against the wall, grabbing for a lamp and throwing it quickly at him. He raised his arm and fended it away easily with the butt of the gun and sent it crashing loudly against the white, marble floor. Grabbing her he flung her to the floor as Tea hit the hard, cold marble with her mouth and she felt the sting of broken skin and warm blood running down her chin. He jumped on top of her and held her down easily as she struggled and clawed at his face.”
“Oh, God...NO...don’t do this...please...please...” she cried as she felt his mouth clamp down on hers viciously. When he pulled back she saw the ugly grimace on his face, his mouth smeared with her own blood and she felt his knees pinning her thighs down painfully, pressing them apart into the cold marble. He reached his hand down to her crotch and grabbed her through the thin fabric of her bathing suit.
“This is mine...MINE! You are mine...your body is mine! And tonight ...you will be my wife...MY WIFE,” he shouted.
Suddenly he stood up and released her, wiping his bloody mouth with the back of his hand then lapping it with his tongue and smiling at the taste of it.
“I have to take care of Mikos. But I will return shortly and then...you will give yourself to me...as a wife should submit to her husband after battle. I will make you forget him...I will make you forget everything. Trust me, my sweet...after tonight...you will not dare resist me again. Get up! I SAID GET UP!”
Tea stood up but backed away from him, panting, unbalanced, gripped by a fear she’d never felt before. He grabbed her arm and pulled her toward the closet as she struggled to free herself . She clawed at his face and pushed hard against him but he pushed her in easily and closed the door, locking it with a key and placing the key in his pocket.
“I’ll be back my sweet...and then...everything will be as it should be.”
Tea felt around in the darkness, listened for more, but there was only an eerie silence. Banging on the solid door she pushed against it with all her strength but it barely moved as she fell to the floor, broken and exhausted.
