chapter 23:
Todd: Are you coming with me, or not?
Tea: Answer my question.
Todd: Answer mine!
Tea: My answer depends on your answer.
Todd: I don't remember the question anymore.
Tea: Yes, you do. You're avoiding it. Why is that?
Todd: Because you don't want to know the answer.
Tea: That's why I'm asking.
Todd: You want the answer that you want.
Tea: I want the truth.
Todd: The truth is that I don't want you to walk out on me again.
Tea: What if we reunite and then Blair decides she wants you back?
Todd: I'd stick with this, like I always have.
Tea: You didn't on the island.
Todd: That doesn't count.
Tea: It most certainly does.
Todd: I knew what to expect when I got back here. It's not like I came skipping back into town expecting her to be happy to see me and was shocked to find her with her underwear at her knees. Been there, done that, puked all over my shoes.
Tea: What did you expect?
Todd: A battle. A dirty one. Dirtier than you would ever go.
Tea: This isn't like when Starr was a baby. She would be hurt by a bloody battle.
Todd: Exactly! You'd get all soft and blow everything for me. I needed to keep you somewhere that I knew you couldn't get in the way this time. You would have been all over me about doing the supposedly right thing and letting her see my kids once in a while.
Tea: They are her children, too.
Todd: So?
Tea: You are so cold.
Todd: If you come back to the hotel, I'll let you try to warm me up. I know what method I prefer.
Tea: I prefer a man who isn't so cold-hearted, especially about his children.
Todd: I love my kids.
Tea: Do you? I haven't seen much evidence of that.
Todd: How could you say that?
Tea: I know that you do love your children dearly. It just seems that sometimes your need to possess them supersedes their needs.
Todd: I don't want to possess them.
Tea: You want to be the only parent they have.
Todd: They'll have you.
Tea: That was never enough for Starr.
Todd: Yeah, it was. She was happy with just us. You were the one always pushing for her to waste time with Blair.
Tea: Because she needed both of her parents.
Todd: She had both of us.
Tea: You just won't understand this, will you?
Todd: I thought you liked having her around. I never got why you wanted to send her away.
Tea: I didn't want to send her away. I missed her too when she spent time away from us.
Todd: So, why'd I have to get rid of my kid for you?
Tea: It's getting late. We're going in circle...again. We should just say goodnight.
Todd: Come with me, Tea.
[Tea is tempted by the vulnerability in his voice, and in his eyes.]
Tea: I shouldn't.
[Todd gives up, turns and begins walking away.]
Tea: Todd?
[Todd stops and turns back toward her.]
Todd: You coming?
Tea: I think it would be better if I spent the night at Carlotta's. I was hoping that you'd go with me tomorrow when I meet Mitch Lawrence.
Todd: There's no way in hell I'm letting you anywhere near that psychopath.
Tea: I need to do this. I would feel more secure if you come with me.
Todd: You feel secure meeting psychopaths with me but not spending a platonic night in my hotel room?
Tea: You and I both know our relationship will never again be platonic.
Todd: So, you're admitting it?
Tea: I'm still very attracted to you. If we spent the night together, we would make love...
Todd: How many times?
Tea: As many as you could manage. But, in the morning...
Todd: In the morning, I'll still be there.
Tea: I can't promise that I would still be there. I wish I could.
Todd: This sucks! You know that, right?
Tea: I know. Will I see you tomorrow? We could meet for breakfast at the diner.
Todd: Come to my hotel room.
Tea: Todd...
Todd: The food is better.
Tea: Why don't I believe that's the real reason?
