NEVER AGAIN
chapter 17:
[Several weeks later...
Tea returns to Llanview. She's not certain if she's made the right decision...about seeing Todd again, or about meeting Mitch Lawrence.
For several minutes, Tea paces outside Todd's hotel room. Several times she returns to the elevator only to find herself back in front of his door again.
Finally, to prevent any more delays, Tea knocks on his door. She feels relief when Todd doesn't immediately appear at the door. She quickly moves toward the elevator again, determined that this time she'll really leave.
She presses the button and awaits the elevator's arrival. When it finally does arrive, she finds herself face-to-face with her ex-husband.]
Tea: Todd? What are you doing here?
Todd: I live here. What are you doing here?
Tea: I...uh...I'm...I'm staying here, too.
Todd: Really?
Tea: Really.
Todd: On this floor? You must be raking in the dough, if you can afford what they're charging for the rooms up here.
Tea: Actually, I'm staying on a different floor.
Todd: Which one?
Tea: That's not important. If you'll excuse me, I'll be going to my room now.
[Tea enters the elevator. Todd holds the door, preventing it from closing, but doesn't exit the elevator.]
Tea: What are you waiting for?
Todd: There's something I need to tell you.
Tea: What's that?
Todd: You're a lousy liar.
Tea: If you think I came here to see you...
Todd: Why else would you be hanging out outside my door?
Tea: I was doing no such thing.
Todd: Why would you lie about staying here?
Tea: I wasn't lying. I'm a guest, too. We'll probably see each other at breakfast.
Todd: Damn right! And, you'll be wearing my shirt and nothing else.
Tea: Your ego is amazing.
Todd: I know you, Tea. I know when you hate yourself because you want to be with me. I've been hating myself a lot lately, too.
Tea: What does that mean?
Todd: It means that I can't get you out of my head.
[Todd lets go of the elevator door, allowing it to close. Tea is unnerved as he approaches her and enters her personal space. His arms encircle her as his body presses against hers. His lips encase hers in a searing kiss.
Moments later...
The elevator arrives in the lobby. The amused owner of the hotel addresses them as she holds open the door, waiting to enter the elevator.]
Renee Devine: Todd? Is that you? I rented you a room, against my better judgment, for you to do that in.
[Todd moves away from Tea. They both stare at each other, embarrassed by their evident passion for each other.]
Renee: Tea Delgado? I certainly didn't expect to see you here...with Todd.
Tea: I'm not...with Todd. I was just leaving.
[Tea rushes out of the elevator.]
Todd: Delgado, wait.
[Todd follows her. As Renee enters the elevator, she considers calling her own ex-husband, wondering if they could rekindle their passion as well as the former Mr. and Mrs. Manning obviously have.
In the middle of the lobby, Todd grabs Tea's arm, preventing her escape.]
Tea: Let go of me.
Todd: Tell me why you came.
Tea: I wasn't thinking clearly. Now that I am, I'm leaving.
Todd: Come upstairs with me.
Tea: That would be a mistake.
Todd: If you don't want anything to happen, nothing will happen.
Tea: Why don't I believe you?
Todd: Because you can't keep your hands off me.
Tea: I have more willpower than you think.
Todd: Someone's hand was on my ass in that elevator and I know it wasn't mine. Come upstairs and I'll let you put your hand back on my ass, or I'll put my hand on your ass, or whatever you want. Give us another chance.
Tea: I don't want to enter another relationship with you. That would be too masochistic.
Todd: What's wrong with that?
Tea: I'm not doing this with you again. Never again will I be your second choice.
Todd: Second choice? Are you nuts?
Tea: You left me...on a deserted island.
Todd: I needed to get back to my kids.
Tea: You wanted to get back to Blair.
Todd: I wanted to be with you. I told you that on that stupid island.
Tea: You told me you were going home to your family, including your wife.
Todd: I knew if I said that, you'd let me go.
Tea: Nothing you could say right now could convince me that you didn't mean what you said on that island.
Todd: I said I wanted you to be part of my family. I still want that.
Tea: I won't help you fight for custody this time.
Todd: Okay.
Tea: You don't believe me?
Todd: I said -- okay. I already hired a shyster for that.
Tea: Why do you want me? To upset Blair?
Todd: I don't give a damn about Blair.
Tea: Now who's lying?
Todd: Come upstairs and I'll try to explain everything to you.
Tea: I won't fall for your lies ever again.
Todd: No lies. I'll give you the truth.
Tea: You don't even know the meaning of the word.
Todd: Come upstairs and explain it to me.
Tea: I won't give you the chance to seduce me again. You'll have to accept that.
Todd: When have I ever been able to seduce you?
Tea: Every time I gave up my life for you. Every time we've had sex. No more!
Todd: You call that seducing? Come upstairs. I'll show you seducing.
