chapter 15:
[Tea knows that she should put an end to their kiss but finds herself incapable of pushing Todd away in this moment. His physical presence has too much power over her. It always has.
After several minutes, Todd is the one who finally ends their kissing. He keeps his body pressed against hers, not willing to give up the delicious sensation of having her in his arms again.]
Todd: Let's get out of here.
Tea: I shouldn't go with you.
Todd: It doesn't matter what you should do. It matters what you want to do. If being with me is what you want...
Tea: I would have to be a fool to want that.
Todd: Is this about what people will think if they find out we're back together?
Tea: They'll think I'm a fool...again.
Todd: This is about us, no one else. We're all that matters. The rest of the world can go fuck itself. Tonight we're doing what we want to do, not what we should do.
Tea: I would regret it.
Todd: I regret almost everything I've ever done in my life.
Tea: Including your time with me?
Todd: I said -- almost everything.
Tea: What does that mean?
Todd: It means, I hate words. I like the way we communicate better.
[Tea takes a deep breath, uncertain what to do. Looking into Todd's eyes and feeling his body against hers only complicates her thoughts more.]
Tea: I need time to think.
Todd: I need you. I mean it, Tea. When I'm around you, things make more sense. When you're not around, everything gets so fucked up inside me.
Tea: I gave up everything in the past, trying to give you all that you needed. It may have helped you but it didn't help me.
Todd: You knew going in that I wouldn't be any good at this relationship thing.
Tea: I knew it would be complicated. I had no idea just how horrible you really are at relationships.
Todd: Now you know.
Tea: Exactly! I know what it would be like if I gave up everything for you again. I can't do that.
Todd: I'm not asking you to give up everything.
Tea: What exactly are you expecting from me this time?
Todd: I don't know. I just know I don't want you going back to that loser.
Tea: Is this jealousy? Is that all it is? You just don't want me to be with someone else?
Todd: You don't want me to be with anyone else, right?
Tea: As a matter of fact, I do. At least, when you're torturing yourself with Blair, you leave me the hell alone.
Todd: That's not what you want.
Tea: Yes, it is. This doesn't feel good. Do you understand that? Being the person you only want to be with when you're desperate and lonely feels horrible.
Todd: I already explained that to you.
Tea: No, you gave me some bull about love being the same as hate. I don't buy it, Todd. You don't abandon someone you truly care about on a deserted island to risk your life so you can go back to someone you hate. It doesn't work that way.
Todd: Maybe not for you...
Tea: Not for you, either. You told me that you loved her.
Todd: So? You told me that you love that loser you've been shacking up with. Oh, wait! You haven't been able to say that, have you? You're not as good at this game as I am.
Tea: My relationship with Kip is...
Todd: Over!
Tea: You do not get to run my life.
Todd: I'm better at running it than you are.
Tea: Go back to running from it.
Todd: I won't force you to go with me.
Tea: Good! Now, let go of my body.
Todd: You'll come to me on your own, just like you did the last time.
Tea: I didn't come back to Llanview because of you the last time. I didn't come back because of you this time either.
Todd: Last time, you showed up at my door. I didn't go looking for you.
Tea: Only because you still had hope that you could salvage the mess you had made of your life.
Todd: None of that was my fault.
Tea: It most certainly was. My point is, I was in town for other reasons that time.
Todd: You expect me to believe it was a stupid coincidence that you happened to show up where I was living right when I needed you the most? Who were you expecting to find there?
Tea: I didn't come to town because of you. But, when I saw how lost you looked...
Todd: You were spying on me?
Tea: I learned from the master.
Todd: Were you peaking in my windows? That's really sick. I'm impressed!
Tea: Don't flatter yourself.
Todd: I won't have to. Now that we're back together, you can flatter me.
Tea: Why do you want to be with me again, even temporarily? Do you enjoy playing mind games with me that much?
Todd: Mind games...body games...
[Tea pushes Todd's body away from hers.]
Tea: Go to hell, Todd Manning! Stay there this time! I never want to see you again.
[The seriousness in Tea's voice causes Todd to stop trying to win her back. Tea enters her car and quickly speeds away.]
