LAST CHANCE
chapter 246:
[Todd picks up a bar of soap and rubs it between his hands, building a lather. As he sets the soap back in its holder, Tea reaches for it.]
Todd: You don't need that.
Tea: I want to touch you, too.
Todd: That's how this whole mess got started. You came into my room and started touching me, remember?
Tea: You enjoyed it.
Todd: It still screwed everything up.
Tea: Aren't you glad we became lovers?
Todd: You didn't care that I wasn't sleeping with you before we started getting naked together. Now, you hate me because I can't do that sleeping thing with you.
Tea: I love you. Someday I want to share a bed with you, but I don't regret sharing my body, or my heart.
Todd: It was easier before.
Tea: It was lonely before.
Todd: It's still lonely, for you. I read all about it in that book you wanted me to read.
Tea: When you were invading my privacy by reading my private journal...
Todd: When are you going to get over that?
Tea: I'll let you know. But, did you happen to read the part that stated how happy I am that our relationship finally progressed to the next level?
Todd: I read how lonely you are.
Tea: You were out of town. I missed you. That's why I wrote that I was lonely. I'm not lonely when you talk to me, when you look at me, when you touch me, when you make love to me.
Todd: You're lonely after, when I have to get away from you before I have a heart attack.
Tea: I'm more upset for you, that you can't enjoy this because of your panic attacks.
Todd: I enjoy parts of it.
Tea: Let's focus our attention on those parts.
[Tea again reaches for the soap. Todd stops her.]
Todd: I also read about how sore you were after we finished. We shouldn't do anymore tonight. I probably already hurt you and you're just not telling me.
Tea: That was one time that my back bothered me the next morning.
Todd: Because I was slamming you against a wall.
Tea: Because I had forgotten to do my back stretches for a few days. The only reason I wrote about that morning was because I was recalling how enjoyable your massage technique was.
Todd: What about the part where you wrote how much you hated me. What's your excuse for that?
Tea: I never wrote any such thing.
Todd: Do you want me to go get it now and show you?
Tea: You can't because I never wrote those words. I never thought them, either.
Todd: You thought it. You had to. I screwed everything up enough times.
Tea: I never hated you. I've certainly hated your actions at times. Maybe that's what you read and you twisted my words to suit your low expectations. I love you. I'll never stop telling you, and showing you, and doing everything within my power to convince you that I want what we have. Naked or clothed. In the shower, the laundry room, the elevator. Talking, laughing, making love. I love you. I want you.
Todd: What I want is for you to stand still, shut up, and let me soap you up.
[Todd reaches for the bar of soap again and builds up more lather.]
Tea: I'd like for you to start with my back.
Todd: Turn around.
Tea: That's not what I had in mind.
[Tea steps toward him and presses her body against his. Todd begins to lather her back but quickly loses interest in the charade of cleaning her as his passion for her re-ignites.]

chapter 247:
[Todd and Tea both enjoy their sensual embrace. Too soon for Tea, Todd pulls away.]
Todd: That's enough of that.
Tea: I disagree.
Todd: We're only in this shower to get clean after you got us stuck in that elevator, remember?
Tea: That wasn't my fault. And, we both enjoyed ourselves in that elevator...multiple times.
Todd: Too many times. We can't do this again. I'd probably black out.
Tea: We have been active today.
Todd: And last night at the diner.
Tea: You were the one who was so determined to break our record.
Todd: I think we broke everyone's record on the planet. One more time and you'll have to explain to people why I dropped dead in the shower.
Tea: For your health, I'm willing to postpone anymore enjoyment.
Todd: I think I can handle helping you enjoy yourself one more time, as long as you don't try to make me enjoy it, too.
Tea: What I would really enjoy right now is finishing our shower so you can take me to get my surprise.
Todd: Maybe we shouldn't do that. It was probably a stupid idea, anyway.
Tea: We could stay here and spend the rest of the day in bed together, instead.
Todd: I hate it when you do that.
Tea: I'm not trying to pressure you.
Todd: You're trying to use that sleep thing against me so I'll pick giving you the surprise, instead.
Tea: I'm sorry. You're right. I was trying to manipulate you.
Todd: They'll throw you out of the chickhood if they find out you admitted trade secrets.
Tea: I'm not good at being patient when I know there's a surprise waiting to be revealed.
Todd: If I show you what the surprise is will you back off about anything that has to do with me sleeping?
Tea: You need to sleep, Querido.
Todd: I need to breathe normally. That means no sleep and no more getting naked for the rest of the day.
Tea: I just want you to try to lie down with me. That's all.
Todd: I want you to understand that I don't like having a heart attack.
Tea: They're panic attacks.
Todd: That feel like heart attacks. It doesn't matter what you call it. I can't do it.
Tea: Okay.
[Todd knows that Tea's disappointed. He wants to give her everything she's ever wanted. He wants to make all her dreams come true. But, the one thing she wants the most, he can't give her.]
Todd: I always screw everything up.
Tea: It really is okay.
Todd: Maybe you should practice saying that until you can make it sound like you mean it.
Tea: I love you. I mean that. I have to accept that you'll never be able to let your guard down enough to sleep with me. You have to accept that I'll never be happy about that.
Todd: It might not be forever.
Tea: If you won't even try...
Todd: Just thinking about it makes me feel like puking.
Tea: Why is it different with me?
Todd: Because you're different. You expect all this junk from me. You want me to open up my insides for you.
Tea: We don't have to talk. You don't have to share anything you're not ready for.
Todd: I'm not ready for you. I never was. The first time I started to feel weird about you, I knew I should have put an end to everything right then.
Tea: Why didn't you?
Todd: I tried. You wouldn't go away.
Tea: I was falling in love with you. I thought maybe you felt the same way about me. I was right.
Todd: Remember when we were at that disgusting place where all those lunatics were singing and smiling all the time?
Tea: The Bayberry Inn? I remember it very well. We got closer. You got scared. You left me there alone.
Todd: I knew what you wanted, what you expected. I saw that thing you brought with you...that thing you thought would get me to screw everything up by screwing you. It almost worked.
Tea: Seeing my nightgown had that much affect on you?
Todd: You had that much affect. That's why I left you there. I couldn't hurt you like that.
Tea: I knew then, and I know now, you won't hurt me with sex.
Todd: You're hurting, aren't you? We had sex and now you want more than I can give you.
Tea: But, we were able to share a bed before we started our sexual relationship.
Todd: That was different. You caught me at a weak moment. I hadn't slept for days. My head was playing tricks on me.
Tea: What about your heart?
Todd: My heart has never met a chick who didn't get a thrill out of stomping on it.
Tea: I don't want to hurt you. I want to love you. I want to share that love completely.
Todd: When we were at that stupid inn, I think they were brainwashing me, or something. While we were there, I actually wanted to risk everything for you. I even started telling you stuff that I should have kept my mouth shut about.
Tea: The vulnerability you allowed me a glimpse of made me feel closer to you.
Todd: I let you think I was almost human. You've been making me pay for that mistake ever since.
Tea: Intimacy isn't a punishment.
Todd: It's a life sentence.
Tea: Does my surprise involve the Bayberry Inn?
Todd: What is it with chicks needing to know everything all the time?
Tea: Distract me from everything else with my surprise.
Todd: If I do, you won't push me about that bed thing anymore?
Tea: Not tonight.
Todd: I get at least a month, or no deal.
Tea: Try, for me, tonight and I won't ask again for a month.
Todd: Deal!
Tea: You'll really try?
Todd: If I start having a heart attack you're on your own.
Tea: Agreed!
Todd: Can I go back to soaping you up now that we're done negotiating?
Tea: I would love for you to rub your hands all over my body.
Todd: Just keep your body parts to yourself this time. I won't be able to drive if I'm passed out.
Tea: I make no promises.

chapter 248:
[Todd's hands move sensually down the sides of Tea's body. His lips caress her neck. Tea smiles, certain that they'll be making love again, despite Todd's earlier protests of exhaustion.
As Todd begins to kiss along her jawline, Tea closes her eyes, anticipating her lips to be the next part of her body that Todd kisses. She's startled as he instead turns away from her and shuts of the water. She opens her eyes and watches as he steps out of the shower and begins to dry himself with a towel.]
Tea: Why did you stop?
Todd: The water was getting cold.
Tea: It was? I hadn't noticed.
Todd: You don't notice anything when your eyes start doing that thing they do.
[Tea steps out of the shower and begins drying herself.]
Tea: What thing?
Todd: That thing that makes you look like you're stoned out of your mind.
Tea: I can assure you my high is purely organic.
Todd: Don't you mean orgasmic?
Tea: Let's go to the bedroom and find out.
Todd: We had a deal.
Tea: Our deal is that you'll try to sleep next to me today. We could do that here, after we make love.
Todd: I thought you wanted to see your surprise.
Tea: We can go to the Bayberry Inn tomorrow.
Todd: You think that's the surprise?
Tea: Why else would you have brought it up earlier?
Todd: Okay, you're right. Forget it. We'll go back there, if that's what you want.
Tea: Tell me the truth. Is that my surprise, or isn't it?
Todd: It doesn't matter. You liked that place. We'll go back there. If I'm going to let you put me through hell I might as well do it in hell itself, right?
Tea: Are you purposely trying to confuse me?
Todd: No. It just always seems to work out that way.
Tea: What is the surprise, really?
Todd: It's just something I thought a long time ago you might want. I suck at reading your mind, though, so you'll probably hate it.
Tea: It's not the Bayberry Inn?
Todd: Do you really think I would have gone there after you ditched me on our wedding night?
Tea: You were the one responsible for that disaster. And, no, that doesn't sound like somewhere you would go again, not without me dragging you there kicking and screaming.
Todd: I promise I won't ruin it for you this time. Let's just go there. Maybe if I drink enough glogg this time it won't seem as bad.
Tea: I want to go wherever you were after you left me.
Todd: You wanted me to leave.
Tea: I never wanted you to leave.
Todd: It sounded that way when you were yelling at me that you didn't love me anymore.
Tea: I didn't mean whatever I may have said to you that day. I was angry. You should have stayed and fought for me.
Todd: I was fighting for my sanity. It's kind of hard to do both things at the same time. But, I'll try.
Tea: Is that still a struggle?
Todd: Everything is a struggle for me. It always has been. The only difference now is that I figured out I'm not alone in this struggle anymore.
Tea: You believe that now?
Todd: Yeah. I've got Viki.
Tea: What about me?
Todd: You've got Viki, too.
Tea: You know what I mean.
Todd: You really want me to say it, don't you?
Tea: More importantly, I want you to feel it.
Todd: Maybe I do.
Tea: Maybe?
Todd: I know you mean all the stuff you're always saying, but you and I both know people don't always mean that stuff forever.
Tea: I do. I love you.
Todd: If we keep talking about serious stuff, I might have to get away from you for a while.
Tea: Let's stop talking. Let's get back to what we were about to do in the shower.
Todd: You're sure?
Tea: I'm very sure.
Todd: I don't get why this turns you on so much with me.
Tea: Because it's with you.
Todd: Maybe you're the one whose sanity we should be worried about.
Tea: Maybe we should go somewhere more comfortable.
Todd: The laundry room?
Tea: I happen to have very fond memories of that room.
Todd: So do I. That was the first time we kissed after I came back.
Tea: You remember that?
Todd: I remember everything about every time we've done that. I'm glad this happened. I'm glad that I can touch you, and kiss you, and look at you naked whenever I want to. I swear, someday, you'll be glad, too.
Tea: I already am.
Todd: Someday I'll give it all to you. You won't regret this. I promise.

chapter 249:
Tea: I don't regret any of the time we've spent together.
Todd: Not even the lousy parts?
Tea: Every moment in the past has led to this moment. I happen to like this moment.
Todd: That's only because you like looking at me naked.
Tea: That is true.
[Tea smiles as she openly admires Todd's body, still damp from their shared shower.]
Todd: Knock it off, Delgado. I've got a surprise to spring. There's no time for any more delays.
Tea: We can wait until we get to the surprise location. Just don't be surprised if I can't control myself anymore after we are safely behind closed doors again.
Todd: You might not be in the mood, after you see where I'm taking you.
Tea: I wish you would tell me what the surprise is instead of dropping cryptic clues.
Todd: Put your clothes on and I'll take you there.
Tea: What if I want you to dress me?
Todd: Are you serious?
Tea: It could be very erotic.
Todd: Erotic is bad.
Tea: Since when?
Todd: Since you've been trying for the last two days to kill me with sex so you can get your hands on my money.
Tea: We're not married.
Todd: So?
Tea: So, I wouldn't receive any of your money. There must be a different reason I want to have sex with you so often.
Todd: Maybe you're in my will.
Tea: Am I?
Todd: Maybe.
Tea: When did you put me in your will?
Todd: I never said that I did.
Tea: In your own way, you just did. When?
Todd: Does it matter?
Tea: I'm curious.
Todd: You're always curious. Just drop it.
Tea: It's dropped.
Todd: You're not going to ask me how much you get?
Tea: If I lost you, no amount of money would compensate for the loneliness I would feel.
Todd: Those idiots who claim that money can't buy happiness don't know what they're babbling about. Look how many cars I've got.
Tea: Cars don't make you happy. People do.
Todd: Cars make more sense than people do.
Tea: Cars can't make love to you all night long.
Todd: Is that a promise, Delgado?
Tea: That's a challenge. If you can't sleep with me, we won't sleep. We'll stay up all night showing each other how much we love each other, how attracted we are to each other, how much we need each other. We'll kiss, and caress, and explore every part of our bodies, and souls, together.
Todd: Damn! I knew I wouldn't make it out of this bathroom alive.
[Todd grabs Tea's body and pulls it against his own, no longer able to fight his desire for her.]

chapter 250:
[Todd reluctantly allows Tea to remove her body from his as she pulls away from his kiss.]
Todd: Did you change your mind?
Tea: It's getting cold in here.
Todd: You could put your clothes back on.
Tea: We could go to our bedroom.
Todd: Our bedroom?
Tea: Most married couples share a bedroom.
Todd: We're not married. Did you forget how much you enjoyed divorcing me the last time?
Tea: It was an annulment.
Todd: It was still you ditching me.
Tea: After you abandoned me on our wedding night.
Todd: Why are you trying to pick a fight?
Tea: I want to share a bedroom with the man I still consider to be my husband.
Todd: If you wanted us to stay hitched, why'd you divorce me again?
Tea: It was an annulment. I did it because I didn't think you wanted to be married to me anymore after you abandoned me on our...
Todd (interrupting): Wedding night. You don't have to keep saying that. It's all bull, anyway. You divorced me because you wanted everyone in this stupid town to think you never gave a damn about me. You were just in it for the alimony.
Tea: I never asked for, nor did I receive, any alimony from you.
Todd: None of those losers knew that. You did what you did to make a fool out of me. It worked.
Tea: You've always done a fine job of that on your own without needing any help from me.
Todd: Finally! Your true feelings are coming out.
Tea: I'm frustrated. We're fighting. Sometimes people say things they don't mean when they're fighting.
Todd: And, sometimes they start telling the truth.
Tea: Why are we fighting, anyway?
Todd: I thought you knew. You're the one who started it.
Tea: By saying I was cold?
Todd: I thought maybe that was your way of saying you're not in the mood anymore.
Tea: I'm not when we're fighting, but if the fight's over...
Todd: I never wanted it to start to begin with.
Tea: I thought maybe you were looking for another excuse to end our relationship.
Todd: It doesn't matter how hard I try, you never let it happen.
Tea: I would appreciate it if you stopped trying. Accept that our relationship is permanent.
Todd: There's no such thing.
Tea: I would like to believe there is.
Todd: You really want to stick it out with me, even if I can't give you what you want?
Tea: All I ask is that you try.
Todd: I always wanted to give you the world. I never get anything right.
Tea: That's not true. Tell me that you love me and you'll be giving me the world.
Todd: I love you.
[Tea smiles at him as she reaches out to take hold of his hand.]
Tea: You just gave me the world. How does it feel?
Todd: Cold. Let's get some clothes on and get out of here.
Tea: What about what we were about to do together?
Todd: That can wait until we get to where we're going. You wanted me to try doing that holding you after we're done thing. I'll try. I might only make it a few seconds, but I'll try.
Tea: Maybe waiting is a good idea. We'll both have more energy if we delay things slightly. How long exactly will we be delaying our desires?
Todd: I've given you enough hints already.
Tea: You haven't given me any, except that it isn't the Bayberry Inn.
Todd: That narrows it down.
Tea: Try narrowing it down a little more.
Todd: If you shut up, I'll put some clothes on you and I'll take you there.
Tea: You'll dress me?
Todd: If it's the only way to shut you up.
[Todd, his hand still connected to hers, leads Tea out of the bathroom and toward their soon-to-be shared bedroom.]
to be continued...
