I've known sabertooth tiger for only a couple of things, like there enormous two canine teeth and that they lived during the ice ages .But then i found ot some more information that was very exciting, like how big they are to have such great balance and hunting techniques. Tthey werent known for speed but known for there two short powerful front legs.
there is one tiger by the name of smilodon.smilodon was the largest most powerfullest saber of the sabertooth family.the body build was 4-5 feet long 3 feet tall, 440lbs. There body was the size of a lion but heavier and there skull was 12 inches and two 7 inch canine teeth.
there was fossils found of a wolf that was of course dead but the shull had pieces of smilodon's teeth in it's head. Smilodon jaws could open up to the angle of 120º nowadays things have changed tigers can open ther jaws to a 65º
Smilodon appeared 1.6 million years ago and became extinct in the last ice age. Smilodon lived during the early part of the quaternary period.
Sabertooth cats lived in the grasslands they hunted on some prey that were twice there size or bigger. But now peopleare starting to beleive that it could of been a scavenger.
The name smilodon was named by pilenger in 1846.
