An insider's look at Townsend...
Chapter Twenty-seven
Posted on January 25, 2002 (written the week before...)
I’ve decided that Townsend really needs our help. The San Francisco Bay Area market is extremely important to Townsend. We absolutely must get a Bay Area radio station to play Townsend’s CD. The only way that that is going to happen is to convince a music and program director to play it. I’m not sure if our best shot is with Z or with Wild. At least Z played PSSOM on Michael Mann’s show last Tuesday night. It was on Hella-hot Hella-not. 98% of the fans calling in said it was hella-hot. Of course they were probably mostly Townsend fans. In a way, that presented a problem for Z. According to Z, they cannot fairly evaluate the potential of the song because the voting was bias. I’m thinking that we will need a post card and letter drive. We need to flood Z’s music and program director with mail. It’s too easy to ignore phone calls and emails. It’s time that we step things up and make a major concerted effort. I would like all fans and fan clubs to prepare for such a drive. Soon I will post the details on how we will implement this effort.
Today I was cleaning up my in and out email boxes. I was transferring mail to either trash or to an appropriate "storage" mailbox. I do this every 30 days or so. It usually takes a couple hours to do it. I trashed about 1000 emails and transferred to another box about 1000 more. I transferred around 250 to my Townsend box. I was amazed to find out that I had over 2000 Townsend related emails on file. Kristen, my dear adopted daughter, would you like to guess how many emails we have shared? Let me give you a hint. It’s a lot more than the 90 Townsend related emails between Todd and I, but it isn’t as many as the 180 Townsend related emails between Wendy and I.
When I first started doing this Townsend thing I used to get a little annoyed every time I received an email from a fan. Does that surprise you? Now it’s completely different. Now if I don’t get a couple of emails a week from Kristen I worry. Kristen is not the only one. In the morning, before I check my email, I think to myself about who I’m likely to have email from. It seems like there is a strange order to the emails that I receive from the fans. For example, this morning (Thursday the 17th) I expected to get an email from Amber and Sarita. I was sure that as soon as I logged on a message from Wu-Amber would be waiting for me. I was wrong! Well, the day isn’t over yet. I’m positive that I will get one from Sarita before the day is over.
I bet you are all wondering how many emails I have received from the guys recently. You don’t care? Well, I’m gonna tell you anyway. In the last 4 months I have received 1. Yes, just 1. So, for you fans that complain that you never hear from the guys, all I can say is you’re not alone.
Today is now yesterday’s tomorrow. In other words, a day has gone by since I wrote what is above. Let me say it another way for Stella, today is Friday and I started this column yesterday. So, why am I telling you this, you ask? Yesterday afternoon I received an email from Wu-Amber. Yesterday evening I received an email from Sarita!! Wow, am I good or what? Sarita, have you been wu'ed yet?
Speaking of who is Wu, I posted a message on the message board about this whole Wu thing. I guess not everyone knows that my last Insider’s Column was posted on the Townsend Dream Team website. The column before that was posted on the Street Team website. It has been quite awhile since I’ve posted one of my columns on this site. You will also notice that after a few weeks or so Wendy will post on this site my columns that were previously posted on a fan site. We’re gonna do that for archival purposes. My column after this one will be posted on a different fan club website. I think maybe Wu-Amber’s. I can’t remember who else asked. I think maybe Wu-Joy and Wu-Kristen did. I’m not sure. I’m not even sure if Amber said that it would be okay.
This forgetful thing is just part of getting old. I don’t mind being a little forgetful. One of my biggest fears about getting old is ear hair. Have you ever noticed how old people have hair growing in their ears? Every morning I check. When I was much much younger I use to worry about losing my hair. Those days are long gone. Oh, sorry about that. I was lost in thought for a moment.
Ya wanna play a game? Wendy is always correcting my columns before she posts them. I constantly use one word when I mean another. Try your hand at correcting the following. I’m really not this bad.
Your gonna love this joke that I once herd. This is a true story. Several years ago I herd an astronaut tell a bunch of kids that NASA was going to attempt to land a space ship on the son. A little boy raised his hand and asked, "butt mister, will it knot burn up?" The astronaut replied, "well sun, its are intent to due the landing at knight". As I said, I’m really knot this bad. Butt, there is a point to all of this. I just don’t no what it is. Its time too say good buy. Sew, until we mete again, bee happy and due what you can.
I want to remind all the Wus to eat their vegetables, study hard, buy several Townsend CDs and don’t forget to feed the cat.
Later!
Bob
