The
Jacksons
1984.
The Victory Tour...The last time that the Jackson Brothers toured
together. No cameras allowed. We were even searched... (only for cameras and
firearms obviously, because there were people around smoking pot...) I have
quite a few Jackson Five albums. It's not like I haven't been a fan forever. I
have to say that they were great. Michael had already started with the plastic
surgery, but it was before he got crazy with it. He had only had a nose-job at
this point. This tour was for the "Thriller" album. Since Pepsi was sponsoring
the show, they offered tickets to fans at their plant in Savannah, Georgia. The
show however, was in Jacksonville Florida, in the Gator Bowl. We ended up
staying with some of my friend's in-laws. Not only was their house
roach-infested, but they were bigots. How do you explain the Jacksons to someone
like that? Aw, who cares? I certainly wasn't out to impress THEM...
Was the show worth it? You bet!!! We got tickets to see them again, in Atlanta.
We wired money to friend's sister, so she could get us the tickets. I had to
place my phone bill on "hold", so I could have enough money to drive the five
hours to Atlanta.
I screamed so loud that I didn't have a
voice for days. I felt like I was a teen-ager again, only I had no parents to
make me behave...
Very worth it.
