"The only thing I will say is that I am madly, truly in love and extremely happy," -Heath told Melbourne's Herald Sun about Christina Cauchi.
"Those amazing musicals that starred Gene Kelly and Judy Garland are the kinds of things that made me want to do movies in the first place. Gene Kelly is a hero to me. I'd love to do some kind of retelling of the Pirate, the old Garland movie with Kelly. Movies today are supposed to reflect how we really are as opposed to being vehicles for transporting us to other places and creating paper stages where actors can really play it up. I guess in some people's eyes, guys dancing around can look really queeny, but I think it's very, very cool. I can't wait to do one and I also can't wait to see Hugh Jackman do one. I sang a little in 10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight's Tale gave me a chance to do a little dancing, a little heightened theatrically. That was great, but I would love to do a real musical."
"For me, acting is a form of expression," Ledger says. "I discovered this curiosity about human nature and how people work. I love what I do--the time between action and cut is precious." -Premier Magazine (March 2002)
I don't celebrate love or friendship by giving stuff to people. That's why I don't believe in marriage. I don't believe you should have to prove your love by giving someone a gold ring with a diamond on it."-Heath, Movieline
"I am still a six-year-old kid and I always will be"-Heath, TV Hits
" I'm still like a kid. I'm like six years old. I felt like when I left home I was on a journey, and still am"-Heath, J-14
"The day I stop having fun I'll just walk away. There's so much more I want to discover."-Heath
"When I act I look at it as if I am a mixing boardor a sound studio. The pattern on the board is me."-Heath
"Making it in Hollywood takes persistence. And you need confidence"- Heath
"I love the vibrant cities and the enthusiasm Americans have.....for America. I like to hang out in Manhatten where it's an easy walk to great theatre, cinema, or a Starbuck's Coffee House. I could easily make this my base," - Heath Ledger 2000.
"I don't celebrate love and friendship by giving stuff to people. That's why I don't believe in marraige. I don't believe you should have to prove your love by giving someone a gold ring with a diamond on it.,"-Heath Ledger, 2001.
"I'm still a six-year-old kid and I always will be." Heath Ledger 2001
"I said 'I'm going to do this. I'm going to leave and become an actor.' Just like that. My parents were very understanding. They let me follow my dreams because I think they knew that even if they said no, I was the kind of kid who was going to do it anyway. Maybe it was a quest for me. I wanted to see the world, to experience new things. I felt, in a way, like life was passing me by." Heath Ledger
"I was ok with it(My Parents being divorced), because it made me realize that my parents were human." Heath Ledger
"Acting is really about self-exploration. There's a part of you in every character, and if you're lucky, you talk away knowing yourself a little better. I'm a big believer in breaking things down, getting to the core. When you do that, it puts everything into perspective." Heath Ledger
"Maybe I'm not too typical, or maybe I'm just a daft. I dont know- i tend to analyze things a lot. I think too much."Heath Ledger
"It's weird, you know? You dont wake up every morning and think 'Okay, I'm hot.' That doesnt concern me." Heath Ledger
"I didnt want to do more teen flicks because its so easy to get trapped there. I think Australians have this independent streak. I want to always have the control to say no when i dont think something is right for me. I want to be able to walk away." Heath Ledger
"What appealed to me is not so much that WIlliam changes his stars, but what he learns in doing so. He goes for gold- the nobility and fame- but he learns that real nobility is finding your head and your heart." Heath Ledger
"I get like a hundred messages on my phone from all my mates: 'You gonna rock me, man?'" Heath laughs. "I'm such an idiot."
What People Think of him!
"A Knight's Tale didn't do it for him. He needs to be in a movie that opens because of his presence and validates that he's a star," says our scout, one of Hollywood's top casting agents (who asked for anonymity). -Premier Magazine (March 2002)
"Who was the best guy I've kissed in a movie? Boy, is that a loaded question. They've all been good. Heath Ledger was pretty good. I say that on a very professional level. I know he has a girlfriend and I am not trying to break anybody up."-Julia Stiles
"Heath's sexy, but it's not an I'm-better-than-you kind of sexy. He's so much fun to be around because he doesn't try to play it cool." Julia Stiles, 10 Things....
Laura Fraser says she's just glad her character (an armor-maker) doesn't end up with Heath. "I kind of liked the fact that she didn't get romantically entangled with anybody, because she actually did have a job and concentrated on that. I thought it was quite original," she says, "and as I've stated, Heath's very ugly." (Yes, she was just joking.)
"Heath is incredibly generous and has a huge heart. He's a real people person and fits into any situation or any group of people." -Rose Byrne, Two hands
"He's so funny. You'd expect him to be more serious, but he isn't at all. He's hilarious. And it was cool to kiss him. He's so cute." Lisa Brenner, Patriot
"He does his stuff really well, he's got a real good screen presence and a lot of talent. He's more mature than I was at that age. He seems more worldly, seems to know his way around." Mel Gibson, Patriot
"Heath Ledger is frighteningly young and frighteningly intelligent. He's a very hard worker, very devoted [and] not a bit spoiled or pretentious" Mark Addy, A Knight's Tale
"He's walking around with a $40 million plus film on his shoulders like he's been doing it all his life. I just have to laugh at those posters, though. They make him look so butch." Paul Bettany, A knight's Tale
"He's awesome! He's really, really charming, sexy, and just himself and natural, and he made it very easy for me to work with him." Shannon Sossamon, A Knight's Tale
"Heath is a really good dancer. He wasn't supposed to be good in the movie," she laughs, "but when the time came for us to just boogie around and improv he couldn't keep acting awkward. [We] would go off in the middle and everyone else would circle around us. It was very sexy. It was seriously like a dream."-Shannyn Sossamon
How Heath got the part in A Knight's Tale
When it came time to cast William, the peasant who dreams of becoming a knight, Heath was shooting "The Patriot" in South Carolina and writer/director Brian Helgeland was scouting for "Knight's Tale" locations in the Czech Republic. The two finally met at an L.A. airport when Ledger had a two-week break and planned a trip home to Australia.
Both men were exhausted, and 15 minutes into Heath's two-hour layover they ran out of things to say. In desperation, Helgeland asked him what was in the leather tube he was carrying, and Heath whipped out his didgeridoo. (That's the Aboriginal woodwind instrument you hear at the beginning of Survivor II.)
"The next thing I now he's going (makes the sound), and it sounds great," Helgeland remembers. "I basically just fell in love with him right there. He had his eyes closed, he was so into it. (Laughs) I was trying to contemporize the movie to draw the audience in, and here was this kid playing this ancient instrument. I just thought I'd believe this guy: There's something weird, something kind of not of his generation about him that I think works in the realm of the movie. So yeah, as soon as he played the didgeridoo, I just thought, that's the guy."
"I thought it (Two Hands) was absolutely great, very seriously, I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed Heath. It was cool seeing Brian play a tough guy - it was great." - Russel Crow
