“This isn’t your fault, Tea. Don’t do this, okay? Ben Davidson was involved with the mob....that’s why he’s dead. Aaron Blackmoor killed him...not you.”
“I wonder if your sister will see it that way, Todd...I wonder if she will ever forgive me.”
“Vicki is the most rational woman I’ve ever met...she won’t blame you...so stop doing this to yourself. What you need to do is leave him.” said Todd.
“But how am I going to leave him without him suspecting that I know who he really is?”
“By telling him the truth. Before you found out what he really is...you were going to leave him for me. That’s what you’ll tell him...unless you’ve changed your mind, Tea.”
“No, I haven’t changed my mind, Todd...have you changed yours? I mean, your family is going to need you now...more than ever in light of this tragedy.”
“I’m leaving Blair as soon as possible...I want to be with you. I don’t care what anyone thinks. I don’t give a fuck if it’s immoral, or illegal, or irrational...I want you. I love you and nothing and noone is going to stop me from being with you.”
Tea looked away.
“And what about your children?”
Todd closed his eyes, a stabbing pain of guilt shooting up in his belly.
“Without you...I’m no good to them, Tea. And I’ll always be there for them...with or without Blair in the picture. I...I‘ve been a miserable excuse for a father in the last few years. Starr is a selfish, rude brat...pushy...demanding...you wouldn‘t know her. And that‘s mainly because of me.”
“She’s still young, Todd. I’m sure you can straighten her out....but...she’ll probably hate me for taking you away from Blair and ruining her family...I’m sure that’s how she’ll see it.”
Todd held her tightly.
“I won’t let that happen.”
“But Blair will...I’m sure she’ll encourage it.”
“I can handle Blair,” said Todd getting up. “Come on, Delgado, let’s get into bed.”
Todd pulled her up and they climbed into bed laying back against the pillows. Tea’s hand caressed his face and played with his hair.
“You should probably get some sleep, mi amor. Tomorrow’s going to be a hard day for Vicki...she’s going to need you.”
“Yeah. I don’t know what to say to her, Tea”
“Just be there for her...that’s what she needs, her family.”
Todd sat up and looked down at her face.
“You’re moving in here tomorrow, right?’’
“I need to wait until Aaron comes back, Todd. What else can I do?”
“NO! Tea I don’t want you anywhere near him.”
“Todd, if he sees fear in me...he’ll know that I’m on to him. I have to play it cool...I need to keep my head. When he returns in a few days, I’ll tell him about us...then I’ll move in here. Okay?”
Todd shook his head.
“This man is dangerous. He kills for a living, Tea. And Delgado...you’re the smartest person I know...next to me, that is...but you’re kind of...well...emotional. He’s going to see right through you.”
“No...he won’t. I’ll be fine. I can handle this. Our future depends on it and I won’t mess that up.”
Todd stared back at her than laid back, frustrated by her willfulness.
“I don’t want you to do this,” he said, sulking.
“I have to. There’s no other way.”
She could feel his anger and jealousy rising as she laid on her side to face him. Sliding her hand beneath the covers she caresses his belly then moved her fingers down between his thighs and raked his curly hair playfully, distracting him.
