Todd: You're so easy, Delgado. All I have to do is string together the right words and I've got you stringing along again. You should make it more challenging so I don't get bored.
Tea: I won't have sex with you until you've slept. How's that for not being too easy?
Todd: I just have to fake like I'm sleeping for a few minutes and then I get your body to do whatever I want with. Easy!
Tea: You need to sleep. This is non-negotiable.
Todd: You need to have sex with me.
Tea: Are you really this afraid of what your dreams may bring?
Todd: Dreams? I don't dream.
Tea: Your nightmares terrify you.
Todd: Isn't that what nightmares are supposed to do?
Tea: They terrify you so much that you prefer making yourself sick, rather than chancing sleep.
Todd: You don't know what you're missing out on. If you stay awake long enough you get this really cool buzz going.
Tea: I know about sleep deprivation. I tried it myself while I was in law school. I know how dangerous it can become.
Todd: I'm fine.
Tea: You don't look fine.
Todd: Are you saying I'm ugly?
Tea: I meant fine, as in healthy. You definitely look fine in other ways.
Todd: You're with me for my bod?
Tea: I'm with you because you need me.
Todd: You think I won't need you when this case is over?
Tea: You're the one who has told me that we can't have a future together, because of your past.
Todd: Right. I forgot.
Tea: How could you forget that?
Todd: It happens sometimes when that sleep thing hasn't happened for a while.
[Tea is relieved as Todd lies down on the sofa. She knows that he'll still continue to fight sleep, but she senses that he's at least closer to trying.]
Todd: I'm not sleeping. You can get that idea out of your head right now.
[Tea slowly moves closer to the sofa. Not sensing any discouragement from him, she sits on the edge of one of the cushions and lifts her hand to his forehead. Todd turns his head away, trying to stop her action.]
Tea: You feel warm.
Todd: It's all this heat between us.
Tea: It seems strange, having you be so blatant about sexual matters.
Todd: I always let you know I was interested. You always let me know that you weren't.
Tea: That is not true. It was the other way around.
Todd: No way.
Tea: I got naked in front of you, Todd, and you turned me down. I was clear about my intentions. You, however, were virtually impossible to read. You would act like you cared about me one minute and yell at me to get out the next.
Todd: I hated needing you.
Tea: You needed me?
Todd: You're a lawyer. I'm a criminal. Of course I needed you.
[Tea starts to stand up, Todd stops her by putting his hand on her leg.]
Todd: You're a human being. I'm not. I needed you that way, too.
Tea: You don't need me to bring out the human being in you.
Todd: Look at what I did after you split on me. That's something one of my fathers would have done.
Tea: I was wondering if you made the connection.
Todd: To what?
Tea: To what Victor Lord did to you.
Todd: It's not the same thing.
Tea: Isn't it?
Todd: He knew I was his kid when he gave me away. I didn't know the kid I was giving away was mine. I would never give away something of mine.
Tea: Your child is not a possession.
Todd: He's mine. No one's keeping him, or Starr, away from me, not for long. I'll get them both back.
Tea: They need a father, not an owner.
Todd: You think Semen Donor gets the difference?
Tea: I know he does.
Todd: Then, why does he need you to call every day? Either, he owns the kid, or he owns you...or, both.
Tea: He worries about me. There is a difference.
Todd: Why is he so worried about you? Did you fill him in on what a creep I am?
Tea: He knows some of our history.
Todd: Does he know my history? Does he know what I could do to you? I don't think you were honest with him. If you were, he wouldn't let you anywhere near me.
Tea: He doesn't own me. He doesn't decide where I go, or with whom I associate.
Todd: No guy who cared about you would let you anywhere near me. Come closer.
Tea: You care about me, Todd. It's too late for you to convince me now that you're an unfeeling monster that I need to escape from.
Todd: You felt that way before. You were only with me so you could get whichever creep you were after to rescue you from me.
Tea: I was with you because I loved you.
Todd: There's nothing here to love. Don't you get that now?
Tea: You always amaze me how fast you can switch emotional gears. Just moments ago you were trying to bed me and now you're trying to convince me that you don't care about me so I'll leave so you can protect me.
Todd: I'm just making it clear that I'll be throwing you out after I bed you. I don't want one of those weird Delgado scenes after I'm through with you.
Tea: I'm through with this.
[Tea stands up.]
Tea: I'll spend the day at the law library. I hope you're more pleasant to be around after you've gotten some sleep.
[Tea gathers her things and walks to the door. Todd removes himself from the sofa. As Tea's hand reaches for the doorknob, Todd's body presses against hers. She doesn't move as he holds her to him, while he whispers in her ear.]
Todd: I want to nail you. I want to be inside you again. I want to see your eyes while I'm fucking you. Because...
[Todd's hand pulls on the material of the dress she's wearing, slowly raising it up her body.]
Todd: ...for as long as it lasts, that's how long I won't be a monster.
Tea: You don't need to have sex with me to not be a monster.
Todd: The only time I don't feel like the lowest creep is when you're looking at me that way that you do.
Tea: Why were you just pushing me away?
Todd: I know how to be a creep, Delgado. I don't know how to be the guy you want me to be.
Tea: Be yourself.
Todd: I tried that. I gave away my own kid. Sometimes, just for a few minutes, I want to be someone else. I want to be the guy you think I am.
Tea: You are. You just need to stop focusing on anger and revenge.
Todd: Those are the only things that make any sense to me.
Tea: When we're together, you know just how to touch me, how to make me feel special. A monster wouldn't know how to make me feel the way you make me feel.
Todd: He would, if he's only doing it to get something out of it.
Tea: But, what you want is something that you could have without me.
Todd: I've never screwed anyone who looks at me the way you do while we're doing it. I need you to look at me like that today, Tea. I need you. I'll stop saying the wrong thing if we stop talking. We can do whatever you want, however you want. Just, look at me like I'm not a monster.
[Todd has the front of Tea's dress pulled up passed her thighs. His fingers brush against her bare skin for a few seconds before his hand begins to caress her through her underwear.
Tea leans back against him, needing his touch as much as he needs to touch her.]
Todd: Show me I'm not a monster, Tea.
[Todd allows her dress to fall from his fingers as she turns her body to face him.
Tea places her hand tenderly against his cheek.]
Tea: You're not a monster.
Todd: Prove it.
Tea: I won't leave, if you try to throw me out.
Todd: You have to leave.
Tea: We have until the baby is born.
Todd: We have today.
Tea: Promise me that you won't throw me out.
Todd: Not today, but...
[Tea places her fingers over his lips to signal him to stop speaking.]
Tea: For the rest of the day, we focus on only today.
[Todd again pulls on the material of Tea's dress. This time he doesn't stop the upward motion until he has it over her head and off her body.
Tea feels awkward, standing before Todd in only her undergarments while visibly pregnant.
Todd senses her discomfort.]
Todd: You're beautiful.
Tea: You're sleep deprived. You're not seeing clearly.
Todd: You're beautiful.
Tea: You don't need to say that.
Todd: Look in a mirror, if you don't believe me.
Tea: I have. I know what I really look like.
Todd: You're beautiful, Tea. I don't like saying that a lot. Stop making me.
Tea: It's very sweet of you to overlook how I look.
[Todd reaches around Tea and unhooks her bra. Tea allows it to fall to the floor. When she looks at Todd's face again, he has a discernible smirk as he stares at her expanded breasts.]
Tea: Do you like that they're bigger?
Todd: I know this chick trick. There's no way I can answer that right.
[Tea reaches out and begins to unbutton his shirt.]
Todd: What are you doing?
Tea: I'm trying to make things more even between us.
Todd: This is sex. There's no way to make that even. Guys always get the better part.
Tea: I anticipate a great deal of satisfaction.
Todd: You expect your Semen Donor to show up?
Tea: You satisfy me. You make me feel...
Todd: How do I make you feel?
[Tea doesn't respond to his question as her attention is diverted to the way her hands feel as she caresses his chest.]
Todd: How do I make you feel, Tea? How bad is it for you?
[Tea's eyes move from his chest to his face.]
Tea: You make me feel wanted...and needed. Sometimes, just for a moment, you make me feel loved.
Todd: I suck at this. I can't give you what you really want.
Tea: You can. You have. Don't insult me. Don't push me away. Allow me to be whatever you need me to be right now.
Todd: I hate this. This feeling sucks. You know that, right? I don't want to feel any of this. I just want to fuck you. That's all.
Tea: We both need more.
Todd: What you need is waiting for you to get over me and go running back to him.
Tea: What I need is you loving me. I need you to hold me. I need you to trust me. I need you to look at me like I'm beautiful, even when I'm not. If you allow it, you could make me feel special. That's what I need from you.
Todd: Let's hurry up and get this over with.
[Todd turns and rushes up the staircase. Tea slowly follows him up the stairs and into the master bedroom. She finds him quickly removing his clothing.]
Todd: Get that thing off.
Tea: Don't you want to remove my panties?
Todd: I hate that word.
Tea: You don't have to use that word to remove them.
Todd: That would be a mistake. All of this junk is a total mistake. Hurry up before my brain gets in the way again.
Tea: I don't understand.
Todd: Stop talking and finish stripping.
[Tea removes her underwear as Todd finishes removing his own clothing. He quickly hops onto the bed and under the blankets. Tea continues to stand near the bed, confused.]
Todd: You don't have to be scared.
Tea: I'm not scared.
Todd: Yeah, whatever! I'm serious. You don't have to worry about that. I won't fuck you.
Tea: Well, why not?
Todd: You were only going along with that because you thought I wanted it.
Tea: You don't anymore?
Todd: I know you didn't really want to get fucked today, at least not by me.
Tea: You're right. I was hoping to make love today...only with you.
Todd: Stop talking and get your ass over here right now, before I call this whole stupid thing off.
Tea: As sweet as that offer sounds...
Todd: Just get over here. You won't be disappointed.
Tea: Are we making love?
Todd: Didn't you hear me? You won't be disappointed.
Tea: You never disappointed me, at least not while we were making love.
Todd: I know that you only let me fuck you because you wanted to get all that other junk out of me. We'll do this the way you like again...no fucking involved.
Tea: Why are we naked?
Todd: You said you liked it this way.
Tea: Liked what?
Todd: Sleeping together.
Tea: We already tried this, remember? I fell asleep and you paced in the living room for hours.
Todd: This time I'll let you put me to sleep.
Tea: Are you sure I couldn't interest you in some physical exhaustion first?
Todd: I get it, Delgado. You've been going without.
Tea: Did you think that Simon and I would continue that part of our relationship after all that happened the last time I was here?
Todd: I thought you'd use your body to force him to get over it. That's what chicks always do.
Tea: Not this chick. What happened here, between us, changed everything.
Todd: It turned you off sex?
Tea: It made me realize that I was fooling myself. I wasn't over you yet.
Todd: What the hell does that have to do with anything?
Tea: I won't use Simon as a substitute for you. He deserves more respect than that.
Todd: I don't want to talk about that creep anymore. I want you to stop showing me what you've got and start doing what you do that puts me to sleep.
Tea: Sex puts you to sleep, doesn't it?
Todd: You really want it? You're that desperate?
Tea: This may be our last opportunity to share our bodies with each other. Do you want to pass that up?
Todd: For you, I would pass that up for the rest of my life.
Tea: I don't want you to avoid contact with me to protect me...not in any way.
Todd: This has to end.
Tea: I disagree.
Todd: You always do.
[Tea joins Todd on the bed. She pulls the blanket away from his body as she brings her body to his.]
Tea is kneeling over Todd, his penis snugly inside her body. Todd is in agony.]
Todd: Tea...
[Tea doesn't respond.]
Todd: Delgado...
[Despite the strain in Todd's voice, Tea continues to avoid speaking, afraid that any sound, any movement, even a deep breath will cause an end to the agonizing pleasure she is currently sharing with her ex-husband.
Todd's hands firmly press against her legs. He wants to move. He wants her to move. He wants the orgasm his body is promising him with the next movement of either of their bodies.
Todd groans from the unbearable delay of their shared gratification.
Tea's breathing increases. She never knew that complete stillness could feel so physically exhausting, or that being joined without continued movement could be so sexually stimulating. Her emotions feel heightened. Her need for him feels greater...physically...emotionally.
Tea opens her eyes. Todd's eyes stare at her with complete lust.]
Todd: Tea...
[Tea moves one of her hands to her side and places it over his hand. As her body shifts slightly, they both moan in reaction to their bodies leaping closer toward their desired orgasms.]
Tea: I love you.
Todd: Ditto!
[Tea stares at him. He can tell from the look on her face that she isn't upset by his choice of words to express his feelings for her. He knows that she's trying to determine if he genuinely does love her, or if he's only saying that in the hopes of her allowing his orgasm sooner.]
Todd: I love you, Delgado.
[Tears form in Tea's eyes. Her emotions overwhelm her. He loves her. For this moment, she believes in his love...she feels it. She also feels certain that soon he'll be pushing her away again, forcing her out of his life, into the emptiness of life without the one person who makes her heart feel repaired, instead of its usual shattered condition.]
Todd: Now, Tea.
[Tea stares into his eyes for a few more seconds before slowly rocking her body against his.
Moments later...
Tea removes herself from his body and rushes into the bathroom.
Todd lies in bed listening to her crying. He hates when he hurts her. This is one time that he knows with certainty that it wasn't his body that hurt her. It was his heart. He shared it with her and it caused them both greater sadness.
When Tea finally does return to the bedroom, she's surprised to find Todd still lying on the bed, although his nakedness is now covered by a sheet. She grabs her robe from a nearby chair and puts it on.]
Tea: I'll save you the trouble. I'll throw myself out.
Todd: We had a deal.
Tea: You got what you wanted. We had sex.
Todd: That wasn't our deal.
Tea: I'm still your lawyer. I don't have to live here to work on your case.
Todd: If you split, they'll toss me back in jail.
Tea: Hank would agree to allow you to move in with Viki. Everything will be okay.
Todd: Sure, as long as you get the hell away from me. There's paper downstairs on my desk. You can leave me another note telling me how sorry you are, how it isn't my fault, you're just too screwed up to fuck the guys you love, or love the guys you fuck, or whatever the hell it will be this time.
Tea: Don't be angry.
Todd: Why the fuck would I be angry? You were right...I got what I wanted. I got off and I didn't have to do any of the work. Thanks, Delgado. As always, you were a great fuck.
[Todd rolls over, facing away from her. Tea rushes out of the room.
Minutes later...
Tea is curled up on the sofa in the living room, crying. Todd stands out of sight, at the top of the stairs, his heart breaking, knowing how painful it is for her.
He's debating within himself whether he should risk everything and go to her, when he hears the sound of her voice.]
Tea (speaking into the telephone): Simon, I need you.
