Tea: I left because I need someone who does love me, not just someone who is trying to.
Todd: That's why you're settling for your Semen Donor?
Tea: Simon is good to me...and good for me.
Todd: But, you're not in love with him.
Tea: So? You're not in love with me, but I'd like to think that I'm good for you.
[Todd is silent. He wants to make it clear to Tea how much he loves her but he doesn't have a clue how to go about that.]
Tea: It's getting late. I'll go upstairs and leave you to your nightly ritual.
Todd: You'll have to get me permission to go out and get the booze first. Otherwise, the cops will be dragging me down to their den of corruption and threatening to shoot me. That kind of is a ritual for me, too, I guess.
Tea: Do you need to get drunk tonight?
Todd: If I want to pass-out before I do something really stupid.
Tea: Like what?
Todd: Like...never mind. Go to bed!
Tea: I'm curious.
Todd: You don't want to know.
Tea: Does it involve revenge?
Todd: I guess...in a way. Every creep who ever wanted me to suffer would feel like they were getting their revenge on me if they knew what was going on inside me right now.
Tea: I don't understand.
Todd: You don't have to. You just have to get away from me. Go upstairs. Lock the door.
Tea: I'm not afraid of you. I wouldn't be here if I were.
Todd: I'm afraid of myself.
Tea: Do you want to hurt me? Are you afraid of what you'll do to me?
Todd: Yeah, Tea...I'm afraid of what I'll do to you. That's exactly what I'm afraid of.
Tea: I know you wouldn't hurt me, no matter how irrationally angry you are at me for trying to find happiness without you.
Todd: Did you find it? Are you happy?
Tea: I'm happy about this baby.
Todd: But, are you happy?
Tea: My life isn't exactly how I thought it would be.
Todd: How did you think it would be?
Tea: During different parts of my life, I thought different things.
Todd: What did you think while we were together?
Tea: Which time?
Todd: Whichever. Pick a time.
Tea: The last time... Things were so confused. You were so...different. I didn't really know what to expect. When we got married for the second time, I knew being with you would always be a challenge, but...
Todd: You didn't expect the challenging part to be the wedding night?
Tea: I thought...I expected it to be...beautiful.
Todd: Later you figured out what a letdown it would have been, anyway, if we had gone through with all that making love stupidity.
Tea: It isn't stupid. It can be beautiful.
Todd: It's sex. It's dirty. It's disgusting.
Tea: Sharing your heart with someone...
Todd: You don't have to do that to have sex.
Tea: And, you don't have to have sex to share your heart. But, when you do...
Todd: I don't want to hear about your Semen Donor again.
Tea: I was thinking about you.
Todd: You never did any of that sharing junk. You only wanted me for my body.
Tea: That's only half true.
Todd: What would Semen Donor say if he knew you were flirting with me right now?
Tea: Was I flirting?
Todd: When you're talking sex while giving me that look...yeah.
Tea: He knows how I feel.
Todd: So, he's okay with us getting it on while you're here?
Tea: He knows how I feel.
Todd: What does that mean? Are you going to do the nasty with me again, or not?
Tea: Is that your way of asking me to make love?
Todd: Love...sex...whatever. Just give me a straight answer.
Tea: Are you serious? Is this a proposition?
Todd: It's late. I'm not drunk. Stop showing off your vocabulary and just tell me if we're getting naked or not.
Tea: You really are serious?
Todd: What do you think this whole thing has been about? You think I held onto all the insults just because I wanted you to have a nice evening?
Tea: I had hoped that perhaps...
Todd: I've been hoping to get off. Are you up for it, or not?
Todd: Come on, Delgado, you can do better than that. At least tell me to go fuck myself.
Tea: Okay. Go fuck yourself!
Todd: I'd rather fuck you.
[Tea is momentarily speechless, but soon begins a long tirade in Spanish that Todd doesn't understand a word of.]
Todd: If you're trying to get me all hot with all that salsa talk, you don't have to try so hard. I'm ready to go already.
Tea: I'm not.
Todd: You changed your mind?
Tea: My mind was never in agreement, to begin with.
Todd: Are you sure about that? Your body is saying something else.
Tea: Only one of us has a body that can't hide its current aroused state.
[Todd turns away from her. She worries that she's embarrassed him.]
Tea: Todd... I'm sorry... Wait! Why am I apologizing? I'm not the one playing games.
[Todd turns back toward her, his anger escalating, along with the volume of his voice.]
Todd: Since when?
Tea: Since...always.
Todd: Like hell! You're an expert at this game. You say one thing and then you do another.
Tea: That's your style, not mine.
Todd: You set the flame going and then you get scared by the fire.
Tea: What are you talking about?
Todd: You do this on purpose.
Tea: Do what?
Todd: Turn me on and then pretend like you weren't even trying.
Tea: What exactly have I done this evening to try to turn you on?
Todd: You dressed like that.
Tea: I'm wearing a nightgown, because I had been planning to go to bed, before you began this setup for a romantic evening together.
Todd: Romantic? Don't flatter yourself. This is about sex. That's all.
Tea: I'm also wearing a robe. Both of which are oversized and in no way flattering to my figure, which isn't all that flattering to begin with, considering how fat I am, which you've been insensitive enough to point out to me numerous times since I returned.
Todd: You flashed yourself to me earlier.
Tea: You walked in on me.
Todd: You planned that. I knew you wanted something to happen tonight. I was just trying to give you what you want so you won't ditch me again...as my lawyer.
Tea: You're willing to have sex with me, just so I'll continue to be your lawyer?
Todd: That's right!
Tea: So, when you made it clear that you wanted me to get you off, you were referring to the charges against you, not to wanting an orgasm?
Todd: I hate that word.
Tea: I know you do. I also know, from experience, how much you enjoy it happening for you, and how you enjoy it even more when you make it happen for me. That's one of the few times your generosity comes shining through.
Todd: I only do that so you won't press charges against me, like some chicks do.
Tea: Do not make light of that.
Todd: I make light of everything. That's who I am.
Tea: Not in the past. Why has that changed? In the past, there were certain things that you would never joke about, never take lightly. Now, everything is a joke to you. Nothing means anything to you, and neither does anyone.
Todd: That's how I've always been.
Tea: That's not how I remember you.
Todd: You saw what you wanted to see. You still do.
Tea: I don't believe that.
Todd: I'm a bastard...always have been...always will be. And, I'm damn proud of it, too.
Tea: Don't even bother.
Todd: I'm just telling the truth.
Tea: I know you too well to fall for your disconnected, heartless act.
Todd: Having a heart is too much work. This is better.
Tea: Not feeling anything...not caring about anyone is better?
Todd: Damn right!
Tea: What about being loved?
Todd: Who needs it?
Tea: We all do.
Todd: You made it clear that you already get all that junk from Semen Donor, so why are you here busting my nuts, instead of at home, leading that poor sap around by his?
Tea: It won't work. You can't deflect the focus from your problems this time.
Todd: The only problem I have is that I can't leave this place to pick up a willing chick and the one chick who is here isn't willing.
Tea: I'm willing and able.
Todd: Let's get naked! You first.
Tea: But, I won't be with you while you're pretending that it means nothing to you...that I mean nothing.
Todd: You want me to say a bunch of words and dump all that fake feelings junk on you first? I can do that.
[As Tea ascends the winding staircase to the upper level of the penthouse, Todd follows her. As she reaches the doorway of the master bedroom, she stops and turns toward him.]
Tea: I'm going to bed...alone.
Todd: You said earlier that we're doing that sharing thing.
Tea: That was before.
Todd: Before what?
Tea: Before you reminded me what a frustrating, insensitive, scared little boy you can be.
Todd: Little? That's not what you told me that first time.
Tea: I won't do this, Todd. If you want a relationship with me, any kind of relationship, be honest with me, share your feelings, treat me with respect. Otherwise, I'm not interested. I've out-grown your games.
[Tea turns from him and enters the bedroom. Todd returns to the living room, leaving both of them feeling unsatisfied with the ending of what they each had come to hope would be an evening that could bring them closer again. Instead, they both feel even more isolated from the other.
Hours later...
Tea is startled as she awakens to find Todd beside her on the bed. Before she has the chance to recover from her momentary fright at his unexpected presence, his lips are on hers. As his tongue passes her lips, she has no time to consider what they're doing, or what the consequences may ultimately be for either of them. Her body gives in to his obvious need for her as her own desires for him quickly escalate.
Moments later, Tea is confused when Todd suddenly pulls away from her and leaves the room. She remains in bed, her eyes closed, trying to catch her breath and recover, while her mind tries to process what just happened and why he stopped what she's certain they both wanted to continue.
Minutes later...
Tea slowly descends the staircase into the darkened living room. She finds her ex-husband laying on the sofa with his back toward her.]
Tea: Todd?
[Todd doesn't respond. Tea approaches him. As she lightly places her hand on his arm, his body jumps, startling her, yet again.]
Todd: What the hell are you doing scaring me like that, Delgado?
Tea: I...
Todd: You know you're never supposed to touch me when I'm sleeping.
Tea: Sleeping? But, you were just...
Todd: I was just sleeping, like normal people do this late at night.
Tea: You're not normal...not in that way.
Todd: I've been recruited. Now, can I go back to sleep, or do you have a good reason for waking me up? You're not popping the kid out already, are you?
Tea: No.
Todd: Good!
Tea: You were sleeping?
Todd: Yeah.
Tea: Really?
Todd: You just woke me up, right? That means I was sleeping.
Tea: You were sleeping?
Todd: I knew your short-term memory was shot, because of your hormones, or whatever, but this is really bad, if you can't even remember just waking me up.
Tea: You're lying.
Todd: Seriously, Tea, your memory is whacked. I'd tell you to ask anyone that you've talked to since you've been back in town how lousy your memory is now, but you probably don't remember who you've talked to anymore.
Tea: I know you were just in my room.
Todd: Your room?
Tea: It could be our room, if you would stop playing games and start being honest.
Todd: The only way I was just in my room is if I was sleepwalking.
Tea: If that's the case, you were sleep kissing.
Todd: Kissing? What kind of dream were you having up there?
Tea: It wasn't a dream. I know it was real...I'm pretty sure. It certainly felt real.
Todd: Maybe you shouldn't eat spicy food before you go to bed anymore. It makes you dream spicy stuff.
Tea: It was very spicy...very erotic.
Todd: Well, that clears me for sure. I've never been erotic in my life.
Tea: It wasn't real?
Todd: You were dreaming. That happens around here.
Tea: I guess it does. Good night.
[Tea turns and slowly walks back toward the staircase. She has had many vivid dreams of him in the past, but this one definitely felt real. It felt overwhelmingly real. She can even remember the minty taste of his kiss.
Tea stops her journey up the stairs and turns back toward the smirking man. He's surprised as she slowly, and to his eyes, seductively approaches him again.
Tea leans down and places her hand on his cheek as her face nears his.]
Todd: What are you doing, Delgado?
Tea: Thanking you properly.
Todd: For what?
[Tea kisses him, again tasting the fresh mint of his breath.]
Tea: For brushing your teeth before coming in to kiss me. That was very thoughtful.
[Tea straightens up and again prepares to return to the bedroom, but Todd's voice in the dark stops her at the foot of the stairs.]
Todd: Yeah, well, you weren't very thoughtful when you ate all that garlic earlier.
Tea: I didn't know that we would be kissing tonight. I'll keep that in mind for tomorrow night.
Todd: This is all a dream. You know that, right? I didn't kiss you. You didn't kiss me. It's just a dream.
Tea: Are we done dreaming for the night?
Todd: I don't know.
Tea: If you find me asleep when you finally decide, wake me again. This is one dream that I don't want to miss a moment of.
[This time Tea makes it to the top of the stairs before the sound of Todd's voice stops her.]
Todd: Delgado?
[Tea turns around. Todd slowly takes each step up the staircase until he's at the top with her. His movement isn't slow, though, as he brings his body to hers, and their lips meet in a passionate kiss.]
