October 18-22:
SHELTON'S "THE BABY" EVOCATIVE FOR COUNTRY LISTENERS
According to KMPS-FM Seattle Music Director Tony Thomas, the station has gotten some powerful calls from listeners regarding Blake Shelton's new song, "The Baby."The scheduled release date for the follow-up album, no title as of yet, is February 11, 2003. There are high hopes that with the early release of the single (The Baby) that the album will be pushed up as well. We'll keep our fingers crossed!! Blake is on several compilation albums out there! He has a cut on the new Totally Country 2 cd with Ol' Red and All Over Me shows up on New Country. Blake sings I'll Be Home for Christmas on Country Christmas 2002. Look for it in the music department of chain stores (Target, etc.). In a recent Daily Oklahoman article, a high school teacher remembered that Blake always came in to class singing I'll Be Home for Christmas no matter what time of year it was! So, it's quite fitting that he sang that particular song on this Christmas compilation cd!!"One 21-year old said that was him in the song, and he'd never really gotten how his mom felt about him being the youngest until then. A woman called whose son died at 17, and she tearfully told me how he'd always be her baby. One man was so choked up he couldn't get his words out. He called back a half-hour later to say he'd never really dealt with his mom's death 4 years ago and the song brought out feelings 'he didn't know he had.' To have a country-only song this powerful for the fall book is a gift."
The Baby, the first release from the upcoming 2nd album, was rushed to radio this week! Several stations have aired it and the response is amazing! Guys are crying, girls are crying, and moms are getting calls from their kids all across the country! WPOC in Baltimore called Blake in the studio prior to debuting the song. In a funny interview with the WPOC DJ's, Blake told them "This is Chris Cagle, you must have dialed the wrong number"! The DJ's, not quite sure, told him to sing a bit of Austin to verify it was REALLY Blake. Blake said "Ok"........then broke into a quick line from Laredo. The DJ's, finally understanding it was in fact Blake, talked a little about the release of The Baby. They then played the single and had to play it again a short time later! Another station had to turn their phones off a second! And, that's the story every where it has been played! Call YOUR radio station and ask them to play The Baby by Blake Shelton!
Happy Anniversary to Larry (Merchandise Manager) and Carol (Fan Club President)! Today marks their 43rd year of marriage! And, some said it wouldn't last! :)

The Baby," hits the top spot on this week's Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. This marks Blake's 2nd time at the top spot, the last being "Austin" which spent 5 weeks at #1 in the fall of 2001! It's pretty incredible for the 1st song off a CD to hit #1 at the time the album hits the stores, which happened with "Blake Shelton". He nearly hit that mark again with "The Dreamer!" Thanks to everyone who have supported this single so strongly. We've been sent countless emails from people across the country on how "The Baby" touched them. I know Blake's biggest enjoyment comes from singing a song that touches so many people.
Look for Blake out on the road at a city near you! If you haven't picked up a copy of "The Dreamer" yet, we hope you do soon. You won't be disappointed.
Chart News: "The Dreamer" debuted at #2 on Billboard Top Country Albums chart and #8 on Billboard 200!

From the road: Blake had very event filled Valentine's Day in Tulsa, OK. He spent 2 hours and 45 minutes signing autographs and taking pictures with fans at Drysdale's Western Wear before performing at Cain's Ballroom. This letter came from a fans mother: "My daughter, Amber, is a huge fan of Blake Shelton. She and her husband had purchased tickets to see Blake in Tulsa at the Cain's Ballroom last night 2/14/03. They were walking to the entrance to go inside the concert when her water broke and they had to leave to go to the hospital. When she arrived at 7:00 p.m., she was admitted and there were complications. The babies heart rate dropped from 120 to 60 and my daughter was losing a lot of blood & the baby had to be taken by emergency C-section immediately. I would like to thank Blake Shelton because if she had not been in Tulsa to see him I might have lost them both. She and her husband live over an hour away from the hospital, but because she was in Tulsa to see Blake Shelton, she was only a few minutes away from the hospital and was able to get the immediate attention she and my granddaughter needed. She has named her baby Blakeley Yvonne after Blake because he saved both of their lives. Although she was very sorry that she missed his performance, we are forever grateful to him." What a letter, huh! We are just happy that everything worked out great! Send us a picture of little Blakeley! :)

Country great Johnny Paycheck passed away on February 19th. In 1978, Johnny Paycheck released "Georgia in a Jug" which Blake has covered on "The Dreamer." We send our thoughts to his family and friends. We also want to send our thoughts out to the families of the horrible club fire in Rhode Island. When you go to a crowded area, make it a point to take a quick look for all the exits. We sometimes forget to do that until something horrible reminds us again. :(

"The Baby" is heading down the charts, so I wanted to sum up it's accomplishments! The single went to #1 for 3 weeks on Billboard Country Singles Chart as well as going #1 on R&R! The video reached the #1 spot on GAC, #1 on CMT's Most Wanted Live and #3 on CMT's Top Twenty Countdown. Most importantly, the song touched thousands of people in a very personal way. The web site received hundreds of emails and posts and Blake received countless personal stories as he met people during his tour. Fame comes and goes, but when you make such a profound impact on someone with a song, you stay with them forever, and that's really the best reward.

After a few red carpet interviews they went back to the pre-party stage for a performance of "Ol' Red." When speaking to Cledus T. Judd, Blake commented how proud he was to even be up for such a cool award. Unfortunately, it wasn't Blake's night as the award for Breakthrough Video went to his friend and ex-label mate, Joe Nichols. We want to congratulate Joe and his fans for turning out the votes! He did two sets with "Ol' Red" and "The Baby" being performed in the first set and "Heavy Liftin'" and "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" (originally by George Jones) during the second set. I'm told the backstage area of the Opry was all watching during the Jones's classic. You can listen to the show at WSM's Listener Archives! The entire show is 5 1/2 hours long. If you choose, you can skip to Blake's portions by moving the time elapsed bar to 2:16 (first set) and 3:50 (second set).
As many of you know, Blake took part in Tracy Byrd's latest single, "The Truth About Men", along with Montgomery Gentry and Andy Griggs. The video was shot several weeks ago and is making it's debut this Friday, May 9th on GAC's Fast Forward at 7:00 pm ET. I understand the video is something to see! With all those guys getting together it must have been like a testosterone bomb going off. (If you want to see the video on CMT, email your plea or submit the song by request to MWL by marking "other" and filling in the artist/title information!)
TOBY KEITH TAPS BLAKE SHELTON IN THE COVETED SECOND SPOT ON NEW TOUR
The slot is prime positioning for Shelton, already riding a wave of acclaim and notable chart success. His current single, "Heavy Liftin'", is racing up the charts in a quest to equal its predecessor, "The Baby," a multi-week No. 1 smash for Shelton. That song propelled Shelton's second album, The Dreamer, to a No. 2 debut on Billboard's Country Album chart, which is quickly approaching gold. Shelton's debut album is certified gold and spawned hits including "Austin" and celebrated story song "Ol' Red." Blake Shelton is an ACM nominee for TOP NEW MALE VOCALIST.
As for Keith, he is busily putting final touches on plans for the tour, which will be announced May 12. Having set the bar high with his recently concluded UNLEASHED tour; Keith has his work cut out for him. Being the consummate singer, songwriter and entertainer he is, however, fans can expect big things from his next outing. Says Keith, "We always try to fill the middle slot on my tour with an act that's on fire, like Rascal Flatts was on the UNLEASHED tour. That is why we chose Blake for this year and it doesn't hurt that he is also from Oklahoma."
The UNLEASHED tour, of course, rocketed past the one million ticket sales mark, and touring trade magazine Pollstar cited Keith as the top country ticket-seller for 2002.
Along with being a final nominee for Top New Male Vocalist, Blake will be a presenter at the ACM's! The 38th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, hosted by Reba McEntire, will air live on the CBS Television Network on Wednesday, May 21st, 2003 at 8:00 PM EST / Delayed PST. The West Coast based Academy, for the first time, will hold the highly-rated award show at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

The tour will kick off in Dearborn, Mich., at Ford's Centennial Celebration on June 15, 2003, and will travel to more than 60 cities across the United States. Blake Shelton will support Keith as the tour's opening act.

June 7, 2003 Fan Fair Wrap-Up
Blake kicked off Fan Fair at his annual fan club party on Wednesday, June 3rd. Fans had been lining up in front of the Wildhorse Saloon for hours before the doors opened at 8:00 am. After a quick "check-in", fans enjoyed a full breakfast buffet and some special prizes as they watched Blake videos and interviews on the big screens. At 9:00 am Blake took the stage and gave a brief acoustic performance to everyone's delight! Then, one at a time, 300 fans went up on stage with Blake to say hi, get a famous "Blake hug" and snap a picture with him. CMT was on hand for the party and you should be able to see clips from the morning on Saturday's edition of Most Wanted Live, as well as clips in CMT's News breaks. The fan club also welcomed www.access.fm and www.countrystarsonline.com. You can see CMT's Flipbook of the party by clicking the picture!
Thursday, the first official day of Fan Fair was a busy one for Blake. Sprinkled within a busy day of media relations, Blake arrived at the convention center for a 3 hour autograph session at his fan club booth where 350 lucky fans received 'tickets' to meet Blake. Upon leaving his booth, he continued signing for the crowd as he walked out of the convention center. Country Weekly stopped by the booth, so hopefully there will be some pictures to look forward to in their magazine!
When Blake wasn't in the booth, the fan club created a "Playboys of the Southwestern World" photo opportunity for everyone to enjoy. CMT Canada, the BBC, Country Weekly and other media kept the photo billboard hopping! Hundreds of fans enjoyed sticking their head through the hole, becoming 'John Roy' and saying "Hey Romeo, Let's Go Down To Mexico!!"
At 3:00 pm he headed to Andy Griggs's 2nd Annual Archery Tournament. He laughed it up with the crowd and gave them quite a show of 'sportsmanship'. Some of the other participants were Troy Gentry, Rusty Tabor (winner), Paul Overstreet and Ty England. You can view the CMT Flipbook by clicking the picture at the left.
At 6:00 pm, Blake was Partying on the Plaza with CMT's Most Wanted Live! The world premier of "Heavy Liftin'" was the finale to Blake's Fan Fair. He talked with Cledus before and after the premier of the video where he once again showcased his sense of humor. Click on the picture to see the CMT Flipbook!

Blake had his first show with Toby Keith on June 15th, celebrating Ford's 100th Anniversary! There were approximately 75,000 people in attendance, so Blake was thrilled to be a part of the event. Elliott Sadler, NASCAR driver and Blake's friend, flew in by helicopter after completing a race at Brooklyn, MI to join in on the festivities! Speaking of Toby's "Shock 'N Y'all" tour, there have been some dates added to the tour page, however, a complete listing is still in the works.
Blake has decided to replace his current single, "Heavy Liftin'", in favor of the fan favorite "Playboys of the Southwestern World." "Heavy Liftin'" was climbing the charts, currently #32, and the video is still on CMT and GAC for voting! It was simply decided that 'Playboys' would be a great summer release, and something Blake wanted to get out to radio listeners sooner rather than later. Everyone request it....it's a FUN song!! Hopefully a video will be on the way soon! Wonder who will play "John Roy" in the video?
Blake also sends his thanks to everyone who wished him a happy 27th birthday on June 18th. :)
Heavy Liftin' debuted on GAC's Top Twenty Countdown and #12 and moved up to #6 this week! The fans determine GAC's chart, so take a minute to vote! Also, vote for Heavy Liftin' to be one of CMT's Most Wanted Live videos!
In sadder news, on June 24th Blake's companion on the ranch, Turkey, passed away. Blake often told stories about Turkey during his performances and interviews, and Turkey was even a big part of Blake's recent story in Country Weekly. Turkey was quite a lucky turkey! :)
