ACUDETOX

Relaxing and soothing, Acudetox is a safe and extremely effective therapy for the treatment of addiction, alcoholism, opioid addiction, tobacco use, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, and more. After treatment, many people are so relaxed and renewed they say they feel like have they've been to a spa! This very gentle treatment is available from Morning Star Wellness.

Autumn Morning Star ADS, is trained and certified as an Acupuncture Detox Specialist by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA). She is fully insured and in compliance with the State of Colorado.

Several points on the ear are associated with detoxification and supporting kidney health, particularly in the context of auricular acupuncture protocols like the NADA protocol.

The five NADA AcuDetox Points on the ear, recognized in Chinese Medicine are:

  • Shen men (or Spirit Gate): Reduces cravings, soothes anxiety, brings peace, and improves sleep.
  • Sympathetic point: Helps relax and regulate autonomic nervous system, calms "flight or fright" responses, and reduces PTSD.
  • Kidney point: Powerful detox point, relaxes nervous system, promotes healing of internal organs.
  • Liver point: Strong detox point, calms aggression, eases anger, and soothes depression.
  • Lung point: Improves respiratory system to expand lung capacity, helps restore joy, and helps in the processing of grief.

    NADA's website states that Acudetox "...Encourages community wellness through the use of a standardized auricular acupuncture protocol for behavioral health, including addictions, mental health, and disaster & emotional trauma."

    THE NADA PROTOCOL

    From the NADA website (acudetox.com) comes a wonderful description of the NADA Protocol:

    "Individuals trained through NADA apply up to five fine-gauge, sterilized, one-time use stainless steel needles just under the skin at designated points in each ear. The needles remain there 30-45 minutes...The procedure functions as an adjunct within a comprehensive treatment program that offers other therapeutic elements including counseling, education, family involvement, mutual support group involvement, and supportive medical health care."

    "Clients in all types of treatment settings including inpatient, outpatient, incarcerated, shelters, harm reduction and street outreach can utilize this treatment. Among the benefits reported by both clients and clinicians are improved program retention, a more optimistic and cooperative attitude toward the process of recovery, as well as reductions in cravings, anxiety, sleep disturbance and need for pharmaceuticals."

    "Beyond the actual needling treatment, a key element of the protocol specifies qualities of behavior and attitude on the part of the clinician, consistent with what is known as The Spirit of NADA."

    Answers to Frequent Questions: Needles only inserted into five specific points. They are never inserted into the ear canal. We are fully trained in and fully comply with "AcuDetox sterile technique". Our sterile needles are the best you can buy, Japanese made, and thinner than a human hair. They are single-use acupuncture needles. These needles are never re-used and we dispose of them in approved medical waste containers. The insertion is usually not even felt by the client.

    For needle shy people, gold beads or tiny vaccaria seeds can be placed with medical tape as an alternative.
