Granny 's Recipes


RED VELVET CAKE

1 1/2 c. sugar

1/2 c. Crisco

2 eggs

1/4 c. red food coloring

1 t. soda in 1 t. vinegar

2 c. flour (sift with cocoa and salt)

1 T. cocoa

1/2 t. salt

1 c. buttermilk

1 t. vanilla

 

(OK, that is all I have....I didn't write down how long to bake it or at what temperature.)

 


RED VELVET ICING

Cook until thick:

1/4 c. flour  

1 c. milk

 

Add: 

1 stick oleo

1 c. sugar

1 t. vanilla

1 c. coconut


STRAWBERRY SALAD

1 can crushed pineapple

1 box strawberry Jello

1/2 c. sugar

1 small carton cottage cheese

1 small carton Cool whip or Dream Whip

Put pineapple juice and sugar on and bring to boil. add Jello and set aside to cool Add cottage cheese and Cool Whip.


TURKEY DRESSING

Cook bony pieces of chicken off bones. Add 2 bouillon cubes to broth. Cook 1 c. chopped onion and 1 c. chopped celery in 1 cube oleo until tender. Add to broth, then crumble dry bread and a little cornbread in. add 1 egg and salt, pepper and sage to taste. Bake it just long enough to brown on top, but not long enough for it to be real dry.


TURKEY GRAVY

Use broth from neck or wings of turkey or chicken. Cook in a little salt water. Add bouillon cubes and let broth get cool. add 1 T. flour to each cup of broth. Stir until smooth and then let cook about 10 minutes.  


POTATO SALAD

Cook cubes potatoes in salt water until tender. add boiled eggs, chopped sweet pickles, chopped onions, red pimiento, 1/2 t. celery seed and mayonnaise, to moisten. Let set in refrigerator for flavor to mix.


PIMIENTO CHEESE

Grate Longhorn cheese real fine. Add as much pimiento (from small jar) as you like. Add mayo for moistness.


EGG NOODLES

1 c. sifted flour

1 egg

1/2 t. salt

1/2 egg shell of cream

Mix all together. roll out real thin on floured bread board. Let dry overnight or can be cut as soon as mixed.  


CUCUMBERS AND ONIONS

Peel and slice cucumbers with onion. Cover with ice cubes until crisp. Add:

(Use less water and vinegar if you only use a small amount of cucumbers and onion.)


THREE BEAN SALAD

Drain well and combine:

Chop:

Add:

 

                        


I thought she gave me one for Tuna and Noodles but I don't see it in here. I remember she first cooked chicken skins for the broth, then discarded them....can anyone help out here?
