Dee Days

"Dreams do come true." I have been saying that phrase to myself for several years now, but finally, one of my biggest dreams has come true.

Ever since I started watching DAYS, back in 1996, I felt a strong connection to "Marlena", but I couldn't figure out why. That was until I saw an old re-run of Our House. I can still remember several years ago when that show was on the air. My cousins and I would always run into the bedroom just in time to see the show. It was our absolute favorite.

I couldn't believe what I saw when I was watching that re-run....Marlena! I almost flipped out. I knew I remembered her from somewhere, and now I knew where. Deidre Hall played my favorite character on Our House, and ever since I realized Deidre was Marlena, she was absolute fav.

This admiration developed from such a coincidence, yet it has become such an important part of my life. Deidre has become my idol, my role model, and I couldn't possibly thank her for all she has done for me.

I had begun to think that I would never be able to meet her, but those beliefs became distant memories on October 10, 1999. Somehow, I had convinced my Mom to let me fly from Florida to New York and then travel with my friends to the event. I couldn't believe my dreams were finally coming true, but they were...and they did.

Driving to the event that morning, it still hadn't hit me that I was going to be meeting the incredible Deidre Hall. Even once we arrived, it all seemed like a dream.

It wasn't until Deidre entered the double doors in the front of the banquet hall that I realized this was actually happening. From the second she stepped into the room, my camera started flashing. I took 5 rolls of film, and luckily they all came out well.

Dee came by our table a lot, considering we were asking her several questions. I couldn't believe she was so close to me. I was shaking, yet I still managed to give her the frame I made her and the birthday wishes my friend and I had collected from our newsletter. She graciously thanked us; I was in complete awe.

The luncheon continued, and Dee was as cute as ever. I wished I could have bid on one of her outfits, but I didn't have much money with me. Nonetheless, it was incredible.

They started calling tables downstairs to meet Dee. I started freaking out. They called our table like third, and we all headed down there. Once I saw Dee sitting at the table, I began shaking again. I didn't know if I would be able to talk when I went up to her....but I did!

When I sat down, a million thoughts rushed through my head. The fact that I was sitting so close to my role model was amazing. I couldn't believe it was happening. I didn't want to sit there and not say anything so I told her what an honor it was to be meeting her. She was so sweet to me, and she thanked me.

Then it was picture time. I got a picture of me and Dee, and then one of me, my best friend (Jaclyn), and Dee. They both came out great. Before I got up from the seat I asked Dee if I could hug her. I know it probably sounded pathetic, but I had to do it or I would regret it.

She was like "sure sweetie," and she hugged me. Then, the funniest thing happened. She goes to me, "Don't move, my earring just fell off. It's either in your hair or about to fall down your dress." I was like freaking out. Dee was holding me there trying to find her earring and I was in heaven. It was so great.

She is truly the sweetest person ever. I can't even believe I met her, but I did. I wrote her a long, three page letter, telling her why she has been such an inspiration in my life. I hope she read the letter, because it is very important she knows how special she is to me.

Hopefully, I will be able to attend more events in the future, because any opportunity I can get to be in the presence of Deidre Hall is such an incredible honor to me.
