In late 2001 - early 2002, Adrian worked on a movie project called 'Something Borrowed' (the title was changed to 'Mind Games' in early-mid 2002) with martial arts professional, Richard Norton.
To wet your appetites before the release date of this movie (which is still unconfirmed), here are some previously unseen screenshots from behind the scenes of this exciting movie.
Don't forget that you can check details of the movie and so forth at www.mindgamesmovie.com
I would also like to thank Judy Green for taking these digital screenshots and Adrian for giving me the captions to put alongside the pictures!
This was taken in the diner location. I have no idea what we are laughing about but it sure looks like we pissed ourselves about it.
This was taken in the ante room outside the jail set. Richard and Joe are going over lines. We would take any moment to run lines since the actors had no rehearsal time for the production, sometimes meeting for the first time on set.
Thomas Hencz is a Swedish Director of Photography (D.P.) who worked with me on The New Adventures of Robin Hood series in Lithuania. He is a very creative cinematographer with a huge future ahead of him. His contribution to Something Borrowed is one of the reasons the film will stand out against other movies made for similar budgets. This was taken in the diner location.
This was taken on the last day of production. Richard had finished filming that day and hung around to watch a pal of his at work. Geoffrey plays Milton Reeves, father of the lead characters, Jill and Brian. Geoffrey Lewis (father of actress, Juliette Lewis) is a veteran actor with a great body of work. Check him out at www.imdb.com , he and Richard go way back and they relished the opportunity to work on the same project even if they didn't have scenes together.
Richard in the diner, tired and for good reason. This again was taken in the diner location, about 90 minutes out of LA. Since we could only film in the diner after 2 p.m, we shot into the night and had to rig lights to make it look mid-morning. This shot was taken at 11 p.m after Richard's early morning start shooting a love scene at 6 a.m. Ironically, the cabin had to be blocked out because the scene was set at night and the sun was up by the time we finished shooting. So this is why Richard has that sort of 'stunned mullet' expression on his face.
Here is a picture of Joe Estevez and Richard Norton on September the 11th, 2001. This picture was taken 3 hours after the cowardly terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in NY. While they pose happily for the shot there is anger, frustration and helplessness over the horrific events going on in NY. We all arrived in location at the Mormon Rocks, a beautiful State Park, near Wrightwood, about 90 minutes out of LA and listened to the news of the first plane hitting Tower Number 1. Then, with shocking disbelief, as we heard the second crash reported live across the air. I cannot tell you how this affected the crew and set morale, but, to everyone's credit, we continued shooting even with this dark cloud hanging over the production. It took a few days for it all to sink in but we soldiered on.
Reading L-R...Jeanne Byrd Hall (script supervisor a.k.a. continuity), Ade (director), Richard (Carter Talerin), Joe Estevez (Chester Pinkus). This was taken at the police museum. Jeanne is one of Hollywood's top script supers...check out her credits on www.imdb.com and also check out Joe Estevez's credits, there's a lot of 'em.
Standing L-R...Adrian (director), James Wilder (Brian Reeves), Elizabeth Jarosz (Elizabeth Green), Richard Norton (Carter Tallerin), Kari Keegan-Smith (Jill Reeves), Thomas Hencz (D.P.). Seated in front is Geoffrey Lewis (Melvin Reeves). Taken on the last day, just before lunch.
This was taken in a real jail, in a police station, recently renovated as a museum. 'Something Borrowed' is the first production to film in the facility. We are proud of the high standard of professionalism we set for productions that are sure to follow in our footsteps. Richard's character, Carter Tallerin, has been arrested for fraud.
By the time you have everyone rigged for a simple close-up, there isn't much room for anyone else on the set. But, the results speak for themselves in the movie. This picture was of a close-up being shot in the diner.
Richard and Joe goofing off on the set during a break. The pressures of making a movie are so intense and I believe and encourage keeping the set light and fun which brings out the best in the cast and crew.
Another light moment where Richard made some inane remark that Joe and I just lost it. Like I said, keep the mood on the set light. It also helps the actors to turn on the drama more effectively.
