The Dance of The Unicorn
"The Dance of the Unicorn"... "Back in ancient times// When Ireland stood proud and strong// There lived a beautiful creature// Whose mane flowed down so long// It stepped and pranced// Across the rivers and valleys so green// It was a vision, a sight to behold// For every man, woman and child// Its legend spread beyond Irelands green and pleasant land// And reached the ears of a young boy// Who was just learning how to stand// Once he had stood for many a year// He now wanted so to dance// He remembered that bold Unicorn and how it delicately pranced// In his dreams he saw it gallop and move it's hooves so fast// He wanted to be just like that Unicorn// He wanted to live the dance// Years flew by, that boy became a man// He worked so hard to acheive that dream// Determination in his blood ran// He danced so hard and danced so long// Until that magical day it dawned// And Michael Flatley became that beautiful creature// The proud strong Unicorn// He danced for me, he danced for you// He danced for Ireland, bringing back anew// The poetic heritage that existed in this green land// Long before this man was born// Blessing those with his vision so grand// He beat out those ancient rhythmns// With his heels and his toes// The drum pounded ever faster// As the crowds excitement grows// The flame it builds to become one almighty roar// It's cry heard throughout the Universe// Echoing round the planets// As if it were solar wind// This rhythmn so eloquent and divine// Was both sexual and primitive// As it danced on down thru time// To see this noble stallion// Dance with such speed and grace// Bought a smile of joy and radiance// To the mystic Unicorns face// At last, he said, to one and all// I know now that I have seen it all// This man he dances in honour of me// I know this gift must surely be// The greatest tribute ever paid to thee// And all Celts throughout the land// Let this dance continue on// Til time has reached it's natural end// And we are all but sand......... (C) Belinda Hamilton 10-30-99
this poem is also a tribute in part to Michael Flatley
who is LORD OF THE DANCE, the Unicorns are
very symbolic to him and to the show itself, and that
is what inspired this great poem by Belinda and she
has allowed me her friend to put it here on my webpages for the whole world to enjoy! thank You
Belinda!!
