We found Liz’s dorm, and knocked on the door.
“Just a minute.”
We waited about thirty seconds before Liz opened the door and ushered us inside. Brian was sitting in a chair across the room with a smug look on his face. I noticed a barely perceptible smudge of lipstick on his cheek that had been almost completely washed off. AJ noticed this too, but unlike me, started to go after them about it.
“Hey Bri, have fun while we were out?” AJ said in a knowing tone of voice.
“Well, yeah. Did you know that Liz was captain of the flag corps when she was in high school?” Brian said, trying to avoid what AJ was asking.
“You know what…. Jamie, exactly what did you two do while we were out?” AJ tried another tactic.
“We played Clue, then Mouse Trap and Brian taught me how to play a card game,” she motioned to the cards scattered across the floor.
“Of course that’s all you did…. So Liz is he a good kisser?” I asked tired of beating around the bush since neither one was gonna give up any information.
“How should I know,” she asked blushing slightly.
“Well the lipstick mark on his face was our first clue. And the fact that you made us wait outside,” I told her in my best detective-wise cracker voice.
“Oh, well I guess he’s OK…” she said, playing with his mind.
“Hey! I kiss very good for your information!” he said indignantly.
She just laughed and pretended to punch him in the stomach.
As it turns out, Howie has family in Ohio. He convinced Kevin to come with him to visit his cousins, since he hadn’t seen them in a long time.
Liz’s college is in Ohio. It’s a small, but very good Christian college.
When it was time to go to the restaurant, we got in two cars. My RAV4 and the Boys’ rental Mercedes. AJ, Kevin, Howie and I rode in my car, while everyone else rode in the other car.We gave the keys to the valets and entered the building.
