Conservative border patrol agent goes undercover and discovers the human side of illegal immigration. This is an award winning independent film shot exclusively in San Diego. Currently being seen at independent film festivals. In the vein of EL NORTE, THE GATEKEEPER charts the underbelly of the Mexican-American border, and the dream that costs many Mexicans their lives. Adam (John Carlos Frey) is a vigilante border patrol official who's aligned himself with an extremist right-wing group determined to shut down the influx of Mexicans into the U.S. When their scheme goes awry, Adam must remain undercover as a Mexican trying to cross the border illegally. As he and the other immigrants are smuggled into the U.S. to an isolated rural camp led by the ruthless Johnson (Joel Brooks), Adam starts to realize exactly how high the cost of freedom might be. The group is forced to make drugs under appalling conditions, and single mother Eva (Michelle Agnew) encounters an even worse situation as the personal housekeeper for Mr. Johnson. As the group struggles silently to finish the year of labor that will supposedly earn them their freedom, Adam plans his escape. But he quickly learns when you’re living in a no-man's land, there's just no place to run.
