AM RADIO STATIONS (circa 1969)

Nowadays, on AM radio, you generally get a choice between TALK, NEWS, MUSICA RANCHERA, or NOSTALGIA (which is usually good!).  But when we were kids we had some good choices for the cheap radio we got for under five bucks at Thrifty's and mounted on the handlebars of our Schwinn Sting Ray© bicycles with a wire coat hanger.  FM radio was for snobs.  At night that "el cheapo" Thrifty's special would pull in KSL in Salt Lake City with no problem.  They had a late night program called the Nite Caps with Herb Jepko in which elderly people would call to hear themselves on the radio.  No politics or any of that other boring stuff: Just people who wanted to be heard on the radio and didn't know what to say.  I don't ever remember listening to FM radio seriously until about 1977!  These are only a handful of the stations we heard (links and pictures are gradually being added).

The radio you see on this ticket is just like the one I stuck to my bike, then took it off and put it under my pillow to hear KSL.
