The Novels of Tom Clancy - Timeline |

The Timeline for the Clancy novels does not exactly
follow the order of publication. The full-fledged Clancy fans have
enjoyed (been subjected to) a bit of mystery as the exact dating and sequencing
of the stories is not explicit in the text.
Fans have spent some time and effort reconstructing the Jack Ryan story line from the bits and pieces and hints in each book. The first book that can be dealt with quickly is "Red Storm Rising". This book followed "The Hunt for Red October" in its publication, but it is a standalone story - Jack Ryan is not a character in this Clancy effort. The youngest generation of Clancy fans may not appreciate that after "Red Storm Rising" appeared, there really wasn't evidence in the Clancy books that Jack Ryan was going to be a continuing character and that Tom Clancy would spin his career about this character. RED STORM RISING - Standalone The Jack Ryan Story. WITHOUT REMORSE - though Jack pretty well missed this one. It's more the John Kelly story. PATRIOT GAMES THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER THE CARDINAL IN THE KREMLIN CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER THE SUM OF ALL FEARS DEBT OF HONOR EXECUTIVE ORDERS RAINBOW SIX - Again, not a Jack Ryan story (though he is implied), but a John Clark/Kelly/whatever story.
