CHAPTER-1
THE UNEXPECTED VISITOR
The moon was high enough, so that the light shined through Madison’s window, into her bedroom of a two-story house. She opened her eyes and looked at her clock next to her bed. It read two, fifteen.
"What could have woken me up?" She thought
It hadn’t been the first time, she had woken up in the middle of the night. Then she heard someone cough. She turned on the light as quickly as she could. There was nothing or no one there.
”It couldn’t have been Samson”
Samson was her black cat who slept in a basket at the foot of Madison’s bed. She turned around and tried to go to sleep.
Next morning was like any other. She had breakfast with her father before he left for work and then she went for a walk. She was on vacation and didn’t have to go to school for two more weeks so she took her time. She went to Edelbers School for Girls. It was a boarding school, so she would leave in September and come back in June.
Madison liked that she was tall and thin, but what she didn't like was that she had really frizy hair. She was shy and didn't have any friends.
By ten o’clock that night she kissed her father goodnight and went upstairs to her room. She put her pajamas on and got into bed. She hoped that she didn’t wake up in the middle of the night again.

Had she known what was about to happen, she had not gone to bed at all. At around midnight, Madison woke up. Her room was pitch black. There was no moon that night. She closed her eyes and tried to go to back to sleep. Suddenly she felt something move at the foot of her bed. She turned on the light and said
Then she fell silent, a women dressed in black was sitting there. She would have screamed but at that moment the woman said:
“Don’t be afraid my dear”
“Who are you, what are you doing in my room?” Madison asked
“I was a teacher of your mothers and I’m sorry to have come at this hour but I couldn’t come at any other time. My...my..., you have grown. You have your mother’s eyes and ahh I see that you have your mother’s crystal. You look a lot like her.”
Madison was speechless. Could this woman actually have known her mother? Madison’s mother had died when she was very little. She didn’t remember anything of her. The only thing she owned of hers was an old picture and the crystal she wore around her neck and never took off.
Millions of questions were now exploding in to Madison’s mind. But then the woman continued:
“We have been searching for you since you were ten years old. No one knew where you had disappeared to.”
“Who are you”
“I guess you still don’t know who I am. I am Professor McGonagall, Headmistress at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I have come to give you this”
She handed Madison an envelope, Madison just looked at it.
‘Go on, open it”
She opened the envelope and took out a piece of parchment. It read:
HOGWARTS SCHOOL
Madison was stunned. Could this be real or was someone playing a joke on her. She looked up at Professor McGonagall and saw that she was smiling.
“What does this mean?”
“Madison, you’re a witch”
“A what?”
“Your mother was also a witch. We have been trying to find you for a very long time but couldn’t.”
“Are you here to take me to this school?”
“No, I just came to give you that letter. I will come back in a couple of days for you decision. Now I must be going.”
‘Wait, you cant go, I wanted to ask you. What happened to my mother?”
“That is something that I cannot answer. You must ask your father. He will know”
With that she whispered something and disappeared into thin air. Madison couldn’t go to sleep again. Millions of thoughts, memories and questions were popping up in her mind.
