Shawn Murray's Pro Wakeboarder
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater has become the main game people think of when they think of skateboarding video games. To build on that, Activision is planning on releasing all kinds of extremem sports games. While their recent snowboarding venture was not up to the quality of THPS, they are still persistent and want to release the rest. One of the next games coming is Shawn Murray’s Pro Wakeboarder. In case you don’t know, wakeboarding is a water sport like water skiing but instead you ride a board and do tricks while being pulled along by the boat.
The gameplay is shaping up to be very close to that of THPS, which is good or bad, depending on your own opinion. Basically you jump and press buttons to do tricks, one for grabs, one for flips. Its very easy to pick up on and I can not wait to see what additions they make when they finish the game. The challenges are also a lot harder, not really because of actual difficulty, but because you usually only get one chance at it before you have to restart because of time limit. This is really annoying when you have to “Hit all 5 Tubers” for instance, and if you miss one you don’t usually get another try.
The graphics are good, equal to that of Tony Hawk 4, and the water looks very good, with very good physics on how the waves will ripple and such. The tricks look smooth as usual. The sound is very unusal, with some songs that sound a lot like country songs, so I hope they will have an option to change around the music.
Overall, this game is shaping up to be a good game to add to an extreme sports fanatic, but for those of you who are tired of the tried and true THPS gameplay, you might want to wait and see if they have some other additions that would make this game worth your money.
