There’s a tense moment when you just sit and listen, when you comprehend all the emotion of one person and relate it to yourself. Where can all this feeling be held though? A compact disc is a data storage device on which audio, visual, or textual material is digitally encoded. For some reason this definition does not seem to capture the pure essence of what a CD is really worth. Music and lyrics stored on a compact disc is like the writings and emotions of one person taken to be shared with the rest of the world.
The musical part of a CD, although it has no words, speaks through its sounds of malevolent frustration and sincere desire. In fact, the sounds of an instrument can be just as powerful as words. If you hear a loud electric guitar, deep bass, and a wild drum set, you think anger, rage, confusion, animosity. Without using any words, these instruments are telling you something. For instance, as well as loud noises, smooth violins, soft ukuleles, and gentle guitars, speak to you just the same, but with different meaning. You might think love, sympathy, compassion, or forgiveness when you hear these delicate sounds. No matter what instruments are being used, they all talk and get their message across, just in different ways.
When you put words to beats and sounds, you get lyrics. Furthermore, you get twice the impact when you have lyrics and instruments together, because this creates music. Emotional distress or happiness is written, and matched with the same feeling that certain sounds of instruments can give you. When this happens the power of music is so intense that it has the ability to change lives. For instance, there have been people I know that felt like there was no reason to live, but were inspired and given fulfillment through certain music that their lives were worth something. Music is so strong and many people don’t realize what an impact it has on the world. All this impact through a tiny little flat, circular thing called a compact disc. This is truly an amazing accomplishment and I believe something a lot of people could not live without.
The creators of the compact disc have something to be extremely proud of, and although I have no idea how, I would like to thank them. They have given me and many other people something so no one could ever take away. Their amazing minds have been able to let musicians speak with their music and touch our lives.
