Welcome to my Third Grade Earth Science Resource Page.

Here you will find a number of resources that have been collected from around the Internet to help you create fun and exciting lesson plans for your students.

There are many important concepts that students should learn in 3rd grade earth science. A list of the resources that can be found within these pages is listed to the left. Use this menu to navigate the site and easily jump from one topic to another.

Following is a list of California State Standards. Where can you turn for lesson plans that fit these standards? Don't search the entire internet. I have visited many of the web sites out there and found the most helpful and interesting ones. Click the star in front of each standard to view a list of sites that I have looked over, rated, and linked to.

California State Standards for 3rd Grade Earth Science

Objects in the sky move in regular and predictable patterns. As a basis for understanding this concept, I present you with the following Standards:

Standard a - Students know the patterns of stars stay the same, although they appear to move across the sky nightly, and different stars can be seen in different seasons.

Standard b - Students know the way in which the Moon's appearance changes during the four-week lunar cycle.

Standard c - Students know telescopes magnify the appearance of some distant objects in the sky, including the Moon and the planets.  The number of stars that can be seen through telescopes is dramatically greater than the number that can be seen by the unaided eye.

Standard d - Students know that earth is one of several planets that orbit the Sun and that the Moon orbits the Earth.

Standard e - Students know the position of the Sun in the sky changes during the course of the day and from season to season.
