Deep Throat

Deep Throat introduced himself in the second episode of the series by saying, "I came here to give you some valuable advice." This set up a relationship with Agent Fox Mulder that set the tone and direction of the X-Files. Deep Throat was elusive and mysterious, he gave tidbits of information to Mulder and Scully to get them to look into some cases that they would otherwise ignore, he drew them along the lines of inquiry that may have been disregarded, and sometimes he tried to divert them from areas he wanted them to stay out of. Deep Throat very rarely answered a question directly, and if he did it was on his own terms. He was an important source of information, whether it was to help Mulder find the truth, or to hinder his progress through misdirection. Being manipulative and enigmatic, Deep Throat had created a presence for himself in the X-Files before he had sacrificed himself to save Mulder in the final episode of the first season, "The Erlenmeyer Flask".
