Byers is the military and information systems expert of the Lone Gunmen, he has the appearance of a professor who has wandered into a CIA rendevous by mistake. Although his neat appearance seems out of place among his colleagues, his sharp mind and demeanor show a vast knowledge of conspiracy theory and speculation on everything from the Kennedy assassination to the latest in DNA research. Byers sometimes indulges in a wit much like Mulder's, but unlike his co-conspirators Langly and Frohike, he is the least likely to crack a joke or even a smile. However, his calm intelligence lends authority and believability to the trio's offices.
