La Boissonnière - French Gîte

Welcome to La Boissonnière home page

A 100 year old barn professionally renovated to offer comfortable accommodation for 6.

Just 5 hours from the port of Cherbourg or under 4 from St. Malo.

Set in the heart of the Valley of  Thouet, La Boissonnière provides a perfect setting for a relaxing holiday in the French countryside, whilst being only 6 kms away from our nearest town of Secondigny with it's supermarket, post office, boulangeries, hairdresser, doctors and dentist.

This beautiful part of the Deux-Sèvres in the west of France is conveniently positioned to explore the many and varied aspects of the Poitou-Charentes.

The picturesque medieval town of Parthenay is just 13kms to the east. Poitiers, a city steeped in history, is only 65kms away, with the amazing moving image theme park of Futuroscope situated at its outskirts. Just a little further on will bring you to Chauvigny where at Le Château des Aigles regular displays of falconry are held. Along a similar theme the medieval park of the Puy du Fou is guaranteed to be a day never forgotten. La Rochelle, the Ile de Re and the beautiful beaches of the Vendée are 100kms west. A visit to the stunning Marais Poitevin only 45kms away must not be missed.

Closer to home you can also enjoy horse-riding, golf, fishing, swimming or why not take a stroll through one of the many markets held in the nearby towns, selling a wide variety of local produce.

Built approximately 100 years ago La Boissonnière was originally a farmhouse and set to one side of the rear garden is the barn.

Built around the same time as the house the barn has the original stone walls and exposed beams and since it’s renovation, is now a wonderful combination of the new and the old.

The ground floor has been left mainly open plan, taking advantage of it’s vast space, 65m2, with lounge and dining areas and a fully equipped kitchen, with dish washer, gas cooker & fridge-freezer.

There are three separate bedrooms, a double and twin room upstairs, the third, another twin downstairs, each overlooking the fields behind. Also downstairs is the spacious shower room with sink and separate loo.

Upstairs has been formed around a gallery overlooking the downstairs living area and out across the pool, garden and fields beyond.

The garden in front of the barn has a terraced area and the pool (6 x 4m x 1.20m – 1.60m deep).

Well positioned for ease of use when barbecuing, relaxing in the sun or cooling off. The west facing aspect provides sunshine from early morning to the end of the day, when the sun sets before you beyond the fields and trees.

There is an 80m2, undercover games area, with a table tennis table and basketball hoop.

For those who prefer to take their holidays out of season or at Christmas, the barn is furnished with a log-burner and electric radiators.

There is a daily delivery of fresh bread and croissants and weekly, fresh fish, cheese and vegetables.
