Game Review
Hesperia Christian and Apple Valley Christian played for third place in the 2003 HCS Holiday Classic and HCS came out victorious 64-56. This is the first year in many years that at least one of these two teams was not in the championship game. This was the Patriot's first victory over the Warriors since December 2001. It was also the first time in a long time that Apple Valley Christian suffered two losses in a row. Coach Dobyns has to be congratulated for developing a solid game plan to beat AVC. Although AVC jumped out to an early first quarter lead, HCS methodically fought back to a one point deficit by the half. HCS did not force shots for the most part. Rebounding was done by Loren Barton with 14 , Nate Glass with 7, Trevor Wagstaffe with 6 and Josh Hamilton with 5 rebounds. This had not occurred the night before with Linfield Christian. Free throw shooting improved to a degree as HCS shot 66%. They also shot 48% from the field, tying a season high. Another major factor in the victory was that HCS dropped their turnovers to 11, another season low. Barton had a double double with 22 points and 14 rebounds while Hamilton led all scorers with 26 points with 66% FG shooting percentage. Finally HCS surged hard in the fourth quarter getting 22 points to AVC's 11 points. HCS is presently 4-2 and will play Riverside Christian at home December 16.
