Serigraphs

A handful of Carl Barks fine duck paintings have been reproduced as fine serigraphs instead of lithographs. The only two companies producing serigraphs were Carl Barks Studios, and Disney.
A "seri-graph" is a popular term for "silk-screen." Silkscreens are made from as many as 53 different colors. The photographic transparency is used only to determine sizes and shapes. Each color is then hand applied and allowed one day to dry. The process is done by a team of people. Some silk-screens are "hand pulled" by experts, without the use of mechanics or machinery. Because the art is totally recreated, it is expensive... about five times as expensive as a lithographic work. A high quality lithograph is done on a printing press at the push of a button. Quantity is unlimited at little additional cost. Each silk-screen, on the other hand, takes intensive hand labor.
1. Carl Barks Studios Serigraphs
I Wonder What My Fortune Cookie Says

This is done by the Carl Barks Studio, and is a serigraph, not a lithograph. This is about the same size as the 'large' Another Rainbow lithographs, with an image size of 16" by 20". This was limited to a production run of 295 copies, and is a money bin scene. This has to be one of the smallest runs of a money bin scene produced. (The first Another Rainbow lithograph was Sailing the Spanish Main, and was limited to 245 copies). This was originally sold at the 1997 Disneyana Convention. Other than the Wanderers in Wonderland lithograph (small) this is the only Magica DeSpell produced as a lithograph or a serigraph.

Heat Wave

Another Carl Barks Studio serigraph - This was offered only at the 1998 Disneyana convention. This was a very small run of 195 pieces. The image size is 14" x 19", and the image was taken from the cover of a WDCS comic book.
2. Disney Released Serigraphs
Golden Fleecing

1st Disney serigraph, "Golden Fleecing", signed and numbered by Carl Barks. Size is 24" x 12". The inspiration for this painting was taken from an early Dell Uncle Scrooge story - The Golden Fleecing (US 12).

Rich Finds At Inventory Time

Most likely the largest oil painting done by Carl Barks, this was produced as a serigraph in 3 editions. One edition was a general edition, one was a remarqued edition (limited to 100 pieces), and the third was the deluxe edition, printed on maple wood, rather than paper.
Surprise Party at Memory Pond

This serigraph has just about every character that Carl Barks is known for, all in a wonderful surpise birthday party setting. In celebration of Donald Duck's 60th birthday, Carl Barks completed the oil painting of "Surprise Party at Memory Pond", where Donald is ambushed by a throng of familiar faces shouting "Happy Birthday". To make the surprise extra special, Gyro Gearloose has invented a remote-controlled Donald as he appeared in "The Wise Little Hen", the feisty fowl's first animated short from 1934. Peter Pig, who co-starred with Donald, and the Wise Little Hen herself are on hand to celebrate, along with Uncle Scrooge, the three nephews, Daisy, Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow, Gladstone Gander, Grandma Duck, and Cousin Gus Goose. With 15 characters represented, this piece is one of the few which incorporate such a multitude of Disney characters.
