To find the volume and issue number of a comic, divide the comic number by 12. The volume number is one more than the answer (quotient) and the issue number of that volume is the remainder of the division. However, if the remainder is zero, then the volume number is the quotient and the issue number
is 12.

Example 1:

If the comic number is 56, dividing 56 by 12 gives us a quotient of 4 with a remainder of 8. Thus, the volume number is 5 (one more than the quotient) and the issue number is 8. WDCS 56
is Volume 5, No. 8.

Example 2:

If the comic number is 36, then dividing by 12 gives us a quotient of 3 and a remainder of zero. This comic then is Volume 3, No. 12.

To find the month and year of publication, simply add 1939
to the volume number to get the year. However, if the month
is one of January through September, add 1940.

The issue number tells us the month, where:

1. October
2. November
3. December
4. January (of the next year, etc.)
5. February
6. March
7. April
8. May
9. June
10. July
11. August
12. September

Thus, Volume 24, No. 7 is April, 1964 (1940 + 24).
