J'vien

Dawn Sisters Weyr
Back to the riderlists

Jerevien watched with hope still bright in his eyes as the last two eggs began to rock. Would one of those cracking orbs contain his lifemate?

Both eggs shattered, revealing two nearly identical blues. The little hatchlings flopped awkwardly towards Jerevien and the other remaining boy. He held his breath and looked into one of the dragonets' eyes, hardly daring to hope.

Nothing happened. "Nothing's happening!" the other Candidate exclaimed with a perplexed frown. Jerevien laughed with him as they "switched" dragons. "Yes, I've found you, Shareth! Sorry for the mix-up!" he told his rather confused blue, and led Shareth out of the Sands.

"Form the weyrling's chain!" shouted the Weyrlingmaster over the tense excitement that preceded Threadfall.

J'vien quickly found his place in the midst of young dragonriders, Shareth sitting a few feet behind him. At the Weyrlingmaster's command, the line moved into ordered action, filling bags of firestone and passing them down to the waiting supply dragons.

J'vien gritted his teeth as his arm muscles screamed protest after the first few candlemarks. Even as a Beastcrafter, he had never had to do this much continuous work!

Memory of the Beastcrafthall sobered him abruptly. I love you, J'vien! Shareth exclaimed fiercely, his mental tone suffused with reassurance. The rider smiled. And I you, Shar. he sent back before being tossed yet another sack of the heavy stone.

"Whew! I'm glad that's over!" J'vien drew a hand over his forehead, exaggerating his fatigue for the benefit of the other weyrlings. Shareth shifted onto his hind legs, giving his rider a quizzical look. Clearly the young blue didn't understand why J'vien was making a fool of himself.

J'vien...J'viiieeeennnn... Shareth's mental call drew J'vien, rather disgruntled, out of his sleep. "What now, Shar?" the rider asked sleepily. We have sweeps today, remember? And you say I have a bad memory! the blue dragon reminded him, amusement coloring his mental tone.

That brought J'vien out of bed like a shot. The bluerider was dressed and ready several moments later, and climbed onto Shareth's warm neck. "Of all the days there are, we just have to have sweepriding on the coldest, rainiest, most miserable day of all..." the young man complained as the steady rain drenched him and turned his dragon navy blue. Stop complaing, rider mine. All you have to do is sit there. I'm the one who has to fly through this! Shareth told him, his magnificent wings beating as they headed away from the Weyr.

Oooh! Look! There's a stray animal. Can I eat it? the blue suddenly exclaimed, spotting a lone herdbeast wandering through a clearing in the forest. J'vien chuckled but told his dragon to go ahead. No telling who owned the animal, so why not?

Shareth flew low over the trees, snagging the herdbeast in his claws. He backwinged to land in the clearing, which was just big enough to accomodate him. His rider hopped off and watched the blue dragon eat, unruffled by the rather bloody display. Shareth devoured the herdbeast quickly and paused to look at his rider, one foreleg raised. I'm done. We should get on with sweeps. he announced.
