Talor Cliff Weyr

"All grown up now, huh, Sovreth?" V'nor declared cheerfully, stroking his dragon's deep blue neck. Sovreth craned his head around, crooning in pleasure. "Seems so long ago that I Impressed you...I wonder what life would've been like without you." the young dragonrider said thoughtfully. I am yours and you are mine, and no one can change that! the blue dragon said firmly, nudging his rider gently with his muzzle. V'nor nodded, smiling. "Of course no one can change that, Sov. You'll always be my first priority."

Oroth's looking more lovely than ever today... Sovreth commented, looking over at the white dragon. V'nor snorted and slapped his dragon's neck good naturedly. "You'd think so, wouldn't you, you silly blue show-off! All eyes for Oroth these days, huh?" the rider replied cheerfully. It was true. The big blue dragon, almost the size of some of the smaller browns, had recently started becoming interested in the white and green females, especially white Oroth. You will sign me up for her flight. the blue dragon intoned firmly. It's not as if you don't like Kare. Sovreth went on when V'nor tried to protest. I know you even dream about her at night, don't try to hide it from your dragon!
V'nor made several inarticulate sputtering sounds before wordlessly striding off to find M'leor. Sovreth returned to looking at Oroth with the dragon equivalent of a dreamy gaze. I will fly her, I can beat all those other males, even the browns! And I'll get V'nor to take me on extra-long flights for practice. the blue dragon thought to himself, a bit smugly, before diving down to the Hunting Grounds, where Oroth was feeding. The blue dragon swooped, showing off his form, and snagged a herdbeast neatly in his claws. Sovreth settled down near Oroth and tore into the meat with less of his usual messiness, hoping to win the white female's attentions. Back at his weyr, V'nor grinned as he watched his dragon's actions, seeing the beautiful emerald-eyed Kare in his mind's eye.
Sovreth suddenly took off from his perch on the weyr ledge, causing V'nor to go running out to the rocky outcropping. Sovreth, what're you doing? the rider queried. Oroth is down at the Hunting Grounds. With one of the queens, Mekoth. And their riders are talking. replied the blue dragon unrepentantly. V'nor half-smiled as he made his way down to Kare and Quachir, noticing that thirteen other male riders were doing the same. The two young women held up a set of Dragon Poker cards. "Care for a game of Dragon Poker, boys?" they called out playfully.
Mekoth rises. All the whites and other golds are gone. Oroth...has teleported near Sapphire. We should see if they're all right. Sovreth informed his rider in crisp mental tones, seemingly uninterested in a queen's flight. "Right, Sov. Let's go then!" V'nor replied cheerfully, vaulting onto his dragon's great neck. They launched off the weyr ledge and went between.
They appeared back in the skies of Pern near Sapphire, and the blue immediately spotted Oroth in a clearing, apparently having just landed herself. Sovreth gave a happy warble and glided down to land near the glowing white object of his adoration.
"Aren't you missing the betting for Mekoth's flight?" Kare asked with a grin, walking over to V'nor as they landed. Her dragon followed closely.
V'nor blushed slightly and fidgeted uncomfortably as the whiterider looked him up and down appraisingly. "I made my bet when Mekoth flew out of sight and left. It was Sovreth's idea to see how you two were doing." the bluerider told her. It seemed to disappoint the young woman that no one else cared for her and Oroth's safety. Well, he was just making sure to appease his dragon, at that. You know you really wanted to come too! Don't you blame it all on me. I bet you would've worried all about her if I hadn't suggested coming. Sovreth sounded a bit indignant but mostly smug and teasing. V'nor grumbled incoherently at the blue and went pink again.
"What was that all about?" Kare inquired sweetly. "Nothing really." he assured her quickly, mentally chastising his lifemate. "Well it had to be something for you to sputter back at him," the whiterider smiled, "No matter. Mekoth's flight might take a while, I think I'll see if Sapphire would allow me to get a snack. Care to join us?" she raised an eyebrow.
V'nor was quite stunned by the question, looking back at Sovreth, who nodded his huge head vigorously and cooed. He grinned in amusement and turned back to Kare. "We'd be honored."
The female rider smiled and mounted up once again. An evil grin appeared on her features, "Race ya' there!" And Oroth sped off towards the Weyr. V'nor urged his blue onward and soon they caught up to the large white.
They landed not too long afterwards, greeted by the young Weyrwoman of Sapphire and given some food and klah after explaining what was going on. They ate in the caverns of the weyr with only one interruption from a brownrider inquiring on Kare's father, who was a greenrider at Talor Cliff. Other than that, it was a quiet meal in which the two riders talked and their dragon flirted outside. It was near nightfall when they got word of the end of Mekoth's flight and Avinoth's victory.
"Had a feeling it would be him and not Rezoth," Kare commented as she mounted up once more, this time to return to her weyr. She waved a happy goodnight to V'nor before winking between with Oroth.
The bluerider felt a warm, happy feeling descend over him as they returned to the Weyr.
V'nor came groggily back to consciousness, rubbing at his eyes dazedly. He was momentarily confused by his surroundings--why was he in an unfamiliar weyr...?
A movement by his side reminded him of the past night's events. The rider's face flushed as he sat up, very slowly so as not to wake Kare. Sovreth? he called mentally. No response. The blue was curled up next to Oroth outside on the weyr ledge, sleeping.
Kare's eyes opened at that moment. She seemed as bewildered as V'nor had been for a few seconds, then spotted the young man. V'nor began fidgeting with his fingers nervously. "Er...uh...Sovreth won the..uh...flight." he stammered, blushing again. The whiterider yawned and pushed herself to a sitting position. "Yes, I suppose he did." she commented easily, chuckling as she noticed the two dragons outside.
V'nor threw on his clothes as soon as the young woman's gaze moved away. "So, um, you hungry?" he asked awkwardly, standing up. Kare thought for a moment, then shrugged. "A bit. Shall we go down to the Dining Caverns?" she responded, pulling on her own garments and moving to join the bluerider. "Well, aren't you going to offer me your arm?" she asked sweetly.
V'nor blinked, but hesitantly put out an arm, which Kare rested one hand on. They made their way across the Weyrbowl to the Lower Caverns, with V'nor attempting to ignore the curious (and a few envious) stares directed at the pair. Kare seemed totally oblivious to them.
Are you not happy, rider mine? Sovreth spoke up anxiously. Oh I'm happy, Sov, I'm just not sure of what I'm supposed to do now. V'nor hastily reassured him. I am sure you will be fine. his dragon remarked. The rider could see his blue extending a protective wing over his white mate as a brown flew by, and smiled. Sovreth was right. He would be fine.
V'nor, yawning, pattered down the steps leading to the Hatching Ground. Kare was already there, accompanying Oroth. The white dragon was curled around her clutch, eyes whirling suspiciously at the rider of her mate. Above, on one of the dragon ledges, Sovreth crooned placatingly.
V'nor chuckled and sat down on the bench beside his weyrmate. "So, how many eggs has Oroth laid?" he asked nonchalantly. Kare answered proudly, "Six eggs, a fine brood! Sovreth flew her well." she added, smiling first at their dragons and then up at the bluerider. V'nor nodded thoughtfully and put one arm casually around the whiterider's shoulders. "Six is great for a white and blue's clutch. Oroth certainly gave 'em a run for their money, huh?" he teased, provoking another hiss from the white dragon nestled on the sands. Both riders burst into laughter as Sovreth told them I don't run and I don't have any money. Should I?
