Diamond Back is a heavy metal band formed in Ottawa, Ontario where they currently reside. The band consists of 4 members: Greg McLaughlin, his brother Liam McLaughlin (my personal favourite of course), and two of their best friends Derek Feltmate and Dan Woolgar.The name Diamond Back however, not their first choice as a name. First there was “Brisk” but come on how far can you take a band called “Brisk”?. Then, there was “Shades” but they weren’t really into that one either. Then came “Charly Dawg” but like the others didn’t last very long. Finally, they decided on “BassBored”and that name stuck for a few years. Finally, Diamond Back was ready to start writing songs and their first was “Douche Bag.” Which was a mix of alternative grunge and Hanson. (don’t ask). Next the time came to record their first song. However, It did not go as smoothly as I’m sure they probably would have liked. Dan was unable to make it due to his hang over and Derek got sick while at the studio. Greg took the role of guitars and bass and Liam with drums and vocals. A mutual agreement was made that Dan Woolgar would be pulled from the band and replaced with Eric Lamarche.
With Dan gone, Diamond Back was in need of a new bassist. The started playing musical musicians and in the end Eric was on bass and Derek was playing guitar. Eric brang the heavy metal aspect that they needed to the band. With a new sound they also needed a new name (yes another name change bare with me people). The last final name they chose was Diamond Back and that is how they remain to this day.
