September, 1944
On September 1, Colonel Jan Golian became a commander. Also, 50,000 copies of first issue of insurgent’s daily newspaper Utok (Attack) were published in paper mill in Harmanec.
A few days later, the Slovak National Council, which took all the executive, legislative and governmental powers, announced mobilisation for men under 35 years. As a result, the number of Slovak soldiers increased to 47,000.
On September 7, headquarter of the 1st Czechoslovak Army in Slovakia opened military hospital in Stare Hory commanded by MUDr. Karol Siska. Weekly political, economical and entertainment newspaper Nove Slovo (New Word) started to be published in Banska Bystrica. It was published till October 22, 1944.
On September 26, the second mobilisation was announced. Number of men in service increased to 60.000 soldiers. 1st Czechoslovak army in Slovakia consisted of 44 battalions, 6 artillery units and 32 artillery batteries.
