The Mousepad I Made

Customized

Here is the mousepad that was on the desk (previous page). You can see how big it is. I hate those tiny little things that don't give you enough room to maneuver the mouse. This is a piece of 1/4" Plexiglass cut to size. I used a small router to carve out a place for a small circuit board w/blue L.E.D. lights. It's under the black material at the top edge. That is a "cordless" mouse sitting on the pad just for scale. The cord you see connects to the circuit board inside the pad and the other end plugs into a USB port on the computer. The 5 volt power line in the USB supplies the power to the lights. Felt glued to the bottom keeps it from slipping around and a black material glued on top provides texture for the optical mouse to read.

"Katie"

Kathy said I am the only one who has ever called her "Katie", so that is how I chose to personalize the mouse pad for her. It's also the name of our Main Computer. They go together well. I printed out a mirror image of the word "Katie" and taped it to the front side of the mousepad, then did all the routing on the back, leaving the front side smooth.

Lit up

Here's what it looks like plugged in. The pic was taken during the day so I enhanced the color so you can see it better. The white line on it is the sun reflecting thru the venetian blinds.

Edge View

This pic is looking flat across the desktop. You can see how the entire edge lights up, just like the "Katie" that is cut into the plexi.
