In my
opinion, the only success of Rosemary's Baby
is that it was able to cross over into the
mainstream. However, the movie itself to me
is boring, stale, and badly acted. It's the
story of a midwestern naive young lady
(Farrow) who marries a New York actor, then
gets pregnant. She starts to suspect his
weird relatives- they are always giving her
vitamins, and caring a little too much about
her unborn child. Turns out she is carrying
Satan's kid. The antichrist is to take over
the throne of hell on earth- and Rosemary is
to be the mother. The whole thing is slow-
this movie is vastly overrated if you ask me-
although it does have some suprisingly
provocative sex scenes for the time. It is
questionably a horror, but always pops up in
the section (while Arachnapobia still resides
in comedy- ???). Anyways unless you're a
horror fan going way back (in which case
you've probably already seen this), skip
Rosemary's Baby, I really don't think you'll
appreciate it if you're under 35. A movie
that more recently came out with a similar
plotline is The Devil's Advocate, with Al
Pacino and Keanu Reaves. I suggest that one,
as it is every bit as suspenseful and has a
little more to offer.
